I graduated with honors (cum laude) in Physics from Drexel University. Although I was trained as a physicist I spent most of my professional life as a nuclear engineer. I have a passion for engineering and physics, and math is the language of that passion.

Many who only teach math and science, don’t have the real world experience of using these tools. Too many stress rote memorization. This may get the student through the next test, but it provides little enlightenment, and eventually can turn students off.

I have years of experience teaching math and science at the high school, college, and post-graduate levels. I’ve always had the ability to communicate abstract ideas to students. Nothing is more rewarding than to see the look on their faces when the veil of confusion is finally lifted.

I’ve seen my students improve their grades, get good SAT scores, get accepted to college, and begin promising careers in engineering and science. I’ve also hired many young engineers out of college, so I know what’s required for them to be successful.

I work at home, so I’m flexible to meet almost any date and time, and I keep my rates low to be accessible. I’m currently tutoring students online in several states. I don’t have a rigid cancellation policy, but would appreciate a call or text.

Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra II retraces much of the topics of Algebra I, but in greater depth. The manipulation of equations is expanded to include simultaneous equations and systems of equations. Exponents, logarithms, roots, and radicals are introduced, along with the new concepts of infinite sequences and series. Equations and inequalities with absolute value-terms, imaginary numbers, and logarithms are often confusing for many students and require careful explanations and examples.
Calculus,

Calculus

The subject of calculus covers a lot of material and usually requires multiple semesters. The topics include all of those in precalculus but in much greater depth. The central theme is the notion of a limit, and how it leads into the concept of derivatives and integrals. These are abstract concepts, and often difficult to grasp for many students, but they are the fundamental concepts underlying calculus and require careful, interactive presentations.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus introduces the student to analytic geometry and the critical notions of functions, limits, and derivatives. Many types of functions are studied; linear, quadratic, exponential, trigonometric, and others. Additional topics include vectors, polar coordinates, parametric equations, conic sections, and more. All of these require a firm grasp of algebra.

I love Allen!

He is so warm, will explain things over, really tries to get you to understand the material. Tells you the way it is, is available last minute and focuses on each students individual needs.

Knowlegeable in multivariable calculus.

Allen, was patient and helpful. His teaching style enabled me to learn the concepts and apply them. He used the whiteboard effectively and enhanced the tutoring session.

Knowledgeable and Scheduled Lesson with Ease

Tutoring was convenient via Skye. The efforts to explain calculus was informative and will most certainly help to achieve a better understanding of the subject. Thank you!

Very Good Session

I will say that my son was completely engaged. He described his session as very good. We will go back to Allen.

Promotes a better understanding of concepts, grades going up!

Allen tutored our Pre Calc Honors student after a very rough test. My son came away with a better understanding of the concepts and a lot more confidence. He has since had 2 more sessions and test grades have gone up significantly. He is way less stressed about the class since he started tutoring. My older son had his first session on line for Calculus, and he says he now understands the material much better. All the sessions were on line and very effective. Highly Recommend!

Very patient

My son is on the edge of the autistic spectrum. He's very smart but doesn't have the social skills and needs someone who can be patient with him. Allen was great. After the first precalculus lesson, my son said he very much enjoyed himself and is looking forward to the next lesson.

Knowledgable and effective

Mr. B was able to dive straight into my son's honors geometry curriculum to determine areas of focus during his first session. My son was so interested and engaged in his tutoring session, that he asked whether it is possible to tutor twice weekly!

AWESOME

So much help i already scheduled another session. He was very patient and really helped me understand everything I am learning in calculus. I really liked that he was able to share his screen such as I was nervous on being tutored online.

Very Knowledgable!

My daughter felt a lot better after only 1 hour of tutoring on the subject of AP Calculus. Definitely will schedule another lesson. Thank you Allen! You were a grand help!
