About Shannon

I'm Shannon and I just recently left at Stockton, where I majored in biology. I love algebra and biology! I want students to get excited about learning things by making them interesting and applying them to real life situations. I am not planning on becoming a teacher, but have thought about maybe after I have a career getting my teaching certificate so I can pass on my knowledge.

I want students to get excited about learning things by making them interesting and applying them to real life situations. I am not planning on becoming a teacher, but have thought about maybe after I have a career getting my teaching certificate so I can pass on my knowledge.

I have taken classes in math up to calculus at the college level, and love math and helping other people understand it. My chemistry knowledge is up until 2nd level inorganic and I've taken biochemistry. My favorite part of chemistry is redox, so if you need help understanding it and balancing equations, I'm your girl! I have taken various courses in biology including genetics, cells and molecules, and evolution.

I have previously tutored at the very young level when I volunteered at the library, and in elementary school. I also have a sister 7 years younger than me who I help with homework.

I love music and have taken a year of music theory and have played the flute for 12 years now. I love learning and I love getting others interested in learning also, especially children at the elementary level.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I know that this is a problem area for a lot of students, especially word problems, but I love it! Algebra is just puzzle solving, and everyone loves a good puzzle. I've taken up to college level calculus in math, so any algebra problem you can throw at me I can help you tackle.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I passed Algebra 2 in high school and have since taken up to the calculus level in college.
Biology,

Biology

I am a biology major at Stockton and just love the Biological sciences. As you can imagine, I have taken several different classes in many of the Biology disciplines.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

Chemistry can be confusing for a lot of students, mainly because most of the work is conceptual and cannot be physically seen; however it is a very interesting field once you master the basics. I love to get students excited about science, and chemistry is no exception. I passed the AP chemistry exam in high school and have taken 1 more year of inorganic in college. I have working knowledge of organic, enough to cover anything taught in a general chemistry class. I have taken biochemistry and I am currently taking the second semester of organic and an analytic chemistry.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is key to understanding algebra, so I teach prealgebra looking forward to the next step. I have always been interested in algebra, so I want to help students understand prealgebra, so they don't get lost in algebra. For most students the key to prealgebra is lots of practice.

Sewing

I have taken a year in high school of sewing classes and received an "A" grade. I have been sewing and doing other work such as knitting and crocheting for about 6 years. I am competent in all of these subjects and would be able to teach basic hand-sewing and machine sewing skills, as well as following patterns.

Terrific!

Shannon has been terrific in helping my son with his on-line Chemistry class. My son had been struggling for a year and she has made it so much easier for him to understand. In addition to her ability to tutor on the subject she has been so responsive and nimble accommodating my son’s hectic schedule. So thankful that we found her!

Great Tutor

Our tutor is such a positive to our children's education. She is dependable, and quite willing to put the time into each of our two girls with their transition from home school to high school at The Pilgrim Academy. Thank you.

Excellent tutor

Excellent tutor. Shannon is very patient and has taught my son so much. Shannon keeps in contact with my son's Algebra teacher to make sure he is learning the right problems. My son is doing much better in Algebra now.
