Hello! I am Brian, an educator with 25 years experience. I graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing/Business, and then went on to earn a Master's Degree in Education at Kean University. I have spent my career in a Central New Jersey public school as an elementary classroom teacher, and a basic skills math teacher. Additionally, I spent many summers teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra. Along the way, I have amassed more than 45 post-graduate credits focusing on mathematics, basic skills, and special needs education. I have been honored to twice be selected as my school's Excellence in Education Teacher of the Year.
I have worked as a math tutor for the past fifteen years, working with students from elementary to college level. I am well-versed in the Common Core math standards as well as a variety of math resources and programs. I find the experiences I have as a tutor to be especially rewarding, as it gives both my students and me the opportunities to make new discoveries in math and to relish those "A-Ha!" moments.
I specialize in elementary school math, middle school pre-algebra, and high school algebra and geometry. I strive to make mathematical learning as concrete as possible, frequently using physical and/or visual representations. I find if students understand math at that level, the abstract application of any concept becomes easier. My lessons are structured to move a student along a course of guided instruction with hands-on learning, to guided practice, and finally to independent practice. I work closely with my students, their parents, and even their teachers to tailor my instructional time in order to make our sessions most productive.
When I am not hard at work as an educator, I enjoy baseball,
reading good books, travelling, movies, and science fiction.
