About Joseph

My name is Joseph P. and I currently hold a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Hartford in West Hartford, CT. I currently reside in New Jersey. During my time at U of H, I pursued a major in Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in Pre-Med and a double minor in Mathematics and Chemistry. I am proficient in a wide variety of subjects such as General Chemistry I & II, and Organic Chemistry Iⅈ all math including Algebra II, Calculus I&II, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra; engineering design and programming programs (AutoCad, Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Revit, C++; Matlab); and statistical analysis programs (Excel & Minitab).

I am a very friendly and personable individual. I have worked 1:1 with a child psychiatrist testing children from age 5-17/18 for ADD/ADHD. I also worked with special needs children for two years in my high school as a peer leader. I enjoy spreading the knowledge that I have learned to other kids/young adults because I am determined when it comes to helping other through their rough classes just like my tutors were for me.

During my time at U of H, I worked on many projects and teams, and even tutored 1st and 2nd year students for over a year. I lead four organizations during my time at the University and I also worked as a Lab Instructor and Teaching Assistant. I taught a General Chemistry II lab during the Spring 2016 semester, which had 24 students in it. I enjoyed very much having the chance to explain the information the students learned in their lecture in terms of an experiment and show them how and why the material they learned was important. I also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture (CETA) at U of H. I assisted in teaching an Engineering Business course made up of Junior Engineering students who worked in teams of 5-8 students and marketed products that were created and designed during their previous design course taken in sophomore year. It allowed me to work with the students and give them advice along the way as they marketed the very product they designed. I was able to give good advice since I had taken this class just over a year ago and I had marketed my own project that I worked on in sophomore year.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

AutoCAD

I learned AutoCAD in my sophomore year in high school. I found the program to be very interesting. I was the CAD leader on my high school's robotics team for 3 years and each year, we designed a custom built robot and submitted for awards at competitions. I have taught many of my fellow classmates, friends, and colleagues how to use this program and the results have always resulted in positive feedback. I am in college and am currently taking more classes to become even more advanced in this program than I already am. The designs that have been created by my CAD team were considered for awards at the world championships for FIRST Robotics. I also currently am employed as the Lead Computer Aided Drafter for Coli Electric, LLC in Paramus NJ. I have drafted floor plans for electric projects that the company has taken part in.

Calculus

I have a good understanding of Calculus. I have taken Calculus 1, 2, and 3. I received a B in Calculus 1, a B+ in Calculus 2 and a B in Calculus 3. I can tutor in all three subjects because I have before at my university. All the people that I tutor have had a better understanding of the subjects after I tutored them a few times. I have all the material covered in all three classes along with the textbook for these courses used at my university. I feel that I am qualified enough based on my grades and knowledge to tutor in these courses.

Chemistry

I took Chemistry in High School and passed with a grade of an A. I just completed my sophomore year in college where I took College Chemistry 1 (Grade: A) and Chemistry 2 (Grade: A-). I also took Organic Chemistry I & II. I also took Environmental Chemistry. I have a really good understanding of the subject of Chemistry and I fairly enjoy it. I was a chemistry tutor during my time at the University of Hartford, as well as a undergraduate Chemistry Lab instructor. I taught 24 students in a General Chemistry II Lab.

Microsoft Excel

I have been using Microsoft Excel since Middle School and I still use it to this day. My Labs for all of my classes use this program to record all data from the labs we do each week. I have created functions in Excel, made charts to manage my money for my business that I started, I have computed my grades in large charts using this program, and much more. I have noticed that over the years that I have a very good understanding of the program because I have taught many people how to use this program and they have used it and have a better understanding of the program than they did before.

Microsoft Outlook

I have worked with Microsoft Outlook for about 5 years. My high school email system went through Outlook, and now my college email is through Outlook. I know a lot about how this program works and I understand it because I use both email systems on a daily basis, multiple times a day. I know that I can teach another person how to use this program because I have a lot of friends that did not know how to use this program and I have taught them how to use it. Now, they fully understand it to the same level I do.

Microsoft PowerPoint

This is another program that I know inside and out. I have been doing presentations through PowerPoint for about 10 years. I have kept updated with all the new versions of the program over the years. I have used this program for all my school presentations. I always get elected in every group project I do, even at work and in college, to be the person to put the PowerPoint together because I make great presentations and also I have used this program for so long. I know that I can teach someone how to use this program because not only have I worked with the program for a good portion of my life, but I have tutored people in the program before and they had a way better understanding of the program than they did before I began tutoring them.

Microsoft Word

This program is a part of my daily life. I do not think that I have ever spent a day of my life not on Microsoft Word. I use it every day to write papers, make flyers, invoices, charts, essays, resumes, etc. I know this program inside and out. I taught my friend's mother how to use this program because she needed to know it for her job. After a few times that I tutored her, she was a pro at operating the program. I know that I can teach anyone how to use this program. I have done volunteering at the public libraries in my area as a computer tutor. Most inquiries were about Microsoft Word, and I have always been able to help each person that has come to me for help.

Revit

I learned this program a few years back and have completed many projects within the program. Back in high school, I taught other students how to use the program. Now in college, I am taking a few advanced courses that are using revit. I feel that since I have taught others before how to use this program, and since all of their designs were impeccable, I feel I would be an excellent tutor in this program.
