Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Baseball

I was personally instructed by Bud Harrelson, shortstop for the 1969 World Series Champion New York Mets. He also happened to be my next door neighbor for many years and I played ball with his son, Tim.

Football

I have coached in several youth leagues within the Suffolk County (NY) Police Athletic League (PAL). I have coached both offense and defense and have been selected to coach all-star teams. Our teams have shown great improvements as we turned programs around for three different towns. (Kings Park, Hauppauge and Community Youth Football (CYF - a partnership of Hauppauge, Smithtown and St. James). I own several books on coaching youth football and currently work with my 7 yr. old son.

Homeschool

As a teacher and tutor with a degree in Elementary Education, I have the resources necessary to help homeschool children in grades K-6. Any state policies regarding homeschooling curriculum and exams will be checked before administering any lessons and it is up to the parent to certify the legitimacy of said curriculum that it complies with all guidelines.

Poker

I have attained an expert level on the WSOP online site winning many high stakes tournaments. I am skilled in Texas hold-em with strategies for blinds, calls, folds, drawing out hands, bluffs, all-ins, etc.

Public Speaking

I was asked to make a final presentation for my Elementary Education Level 3 class before graduating. It was a challenge for me but I was applauded and received an A.

The speech involved key points that I would recommend in teaching the subject of Public Speaking, such as a firm grasp of the subject matter, the speech itself being well written on cue cards, practice/rehearsal, overcoming nervousness, pacing/speech and targeting the audience/techniques (use of humor, media, etc.).

Soccer

Played HYO soccer for 9 seasons, indoor soccer for a few, was a linesman, referee and/or coach for various organizations. I have several soccer drill books in my possession to teach with.

Study Skills

In earning a Bachelors of Science degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, I was able to graduate cum laude by organizing and preparing for different subjects and tests. Prioritizing tasks by time and importance is the key to study skills. Studying with no distractions in a comfortable environment is another key. It is these sound practices, among others, that allow me to help students of all ages with their study skills.

Track & Field

I am a former high school varsity track and cross-country runner and team manager, who has participated in many races from 1 mile to half-marathons. I have a variety of training methods and materials for runners from sprints to middle and long distance.
