Emory University (Nursing)
Hello! I am a critical care nurse and pre-medical student passionate about helping high school and college students achieve their academic goals. I graduated from Emory University with a 3.7/4.0 and Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May 2013. While at Emory, I served as the Vice President of the Student Government Association (SGA), an Orientation Leader, a Tour Guide, as well as many other leadership roles. Throughout my collegiate leadership, I saw many students struggle to balance their academic life and extracurricular activities. I began to develop a passion for helping others organize their schedules and implement successful study strategies.
Following graduation, I began work as an ICU nurse at Emory University Hospital (EUH). During my time at EUH, in addition to bedside nursing, I served as a preceptor to new graduate nurses, the chair of a council that worked with, and delegated to, ten unit nursing committees, and the nursing representative for hospital and unit-wide quality-focused committees. These experiences helped to build my communication, management, teaching, and mentoring skills.
I enrolled in post-baccalaureate, pre-medical coursework at Georgia State University (GSU) in Summer 2015 and remained a student at GSU until Summer 2016. The first course I took at GSU was Principles of Chemistry II (General Chemistry II) and was asked by my professor to join the team of tutors at the Chemistry Tutoring Center. I tutored for five different general chemistry courses, as well as organic chemistry. I worked with a diverse group of students in both one-on-one and group-based tutoring sessions.
Helping others has been remained an integral part of who I am, whether it be through nursing, training new nurses, tutoring, fitness, or leadership. I look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your personal goals!
I enjoy breaking down complex concepts and making them easy to understand. During my undergraduate nursing degree, I was often intimidated by science, despite that I received high grades. During my post-bacc studies, I grew a passion for chemistry and while simultaneously working as a nurse, I continued to see the importance of chemistry in many different facets of my work as a nurse. I enjoy helping others implement study strategies to conquer challenging material. My tutoring experience at Georgia State helped me to how to effectively teach a subject that can feel frustrating and elusive to many. I want students I work with to feel that while chemistry may be challenging, it is absolutely possible to learn the concepts and achieve success in the classroom.
I will complete my National Academy of Sports Medication Certified Personal Trainer Certification in November. Fitness, health and wellness have always been important parts of my life. Over the past seven years, I have trained individual clients and friends. I enjoy sharing my love for fitness and healthy living with others and empowering them to live their best lives. I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your personal goals through fitness and working towards embracing a healthy lifestyle.
I am happy to set up a complimentary phone call to discuss your goals and to help you determine if I would be a good match for you. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
