About Lynne

I was born deaf and got educated in a variety of deaf schools and graduated from Gallaudet University in majoring Deaf studies. After spending years at deaf schools, I learned how to talk and lip read. Today, I communicate with a combination of speech reading, using my speech and ASL. I’m a very patient person when I communicate with hearing people can understand me easily. I taught American Sign Language for more than 10 years in a community college, adult school programs and private tutoring sessions. I have used two textbooks called ASL at Work and Sign Naturally to teach the classes.

I have been a private tutor in American Sign language for deaf teenagers and adults. I have also been an Adjunct Professor for 10 years at a Community College. I have an SLPI (Sign Language Proficiency Interview) Certificate in Superior Level.

If you want to set the schedule with me, please encourage yourself to make a good commitment to be on time.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Hard Of Hearing

I have studied Deaf Culture, and deaf related courses such as a History of Deaf Community, Oral Tradition and Deaf Community and many more. I can educate how to learn what a student can do from the right sources. I can try to provide the places where the student can collect the information in the deaf communities.

Sign Language

I have taught American sign language (ASL) for less than 20 years. I use ASL to communicate with my husband and children. I taught ASL at a community college for 10 years. I am familiar of using the textbooks called ASL at Work and Signing Naturally. I am a president of New Jersey American Sign Language Teacher Association.

Patient and knowledgeable

This was my first time working with a private tutor and Lynne was very accommodating! I only had a general idea of what I wanted to accomplish, but Lynne was able to create a full lesson with it. Excited to keep working with her!
