I am Cindy S. from New Jersey (born and raised). I attended and graduated from High School in Union, NJ. After graduation, I attended Central Connecticut State University in New Britain, CT and successfully completed my B.S. degree in Physical Education concentrating in Exercise Science. However, upon returning to New Jersey I realized my true passion lies in helping children.
I began my journey in pursing my goals by working as a full time Teacher Aide with the West Orange School District. Soon after, I was hired by the Hillside School District as a 5th grade teacher. While teaching I took Alternate Route courses, and obtained my NJ Teacher Certificate. Currently, I am serving as a 6th Language Arts/ Literacy teacher in the same district. For the past 11 years, I have been in the education field and it has been a rewarding experience. While working with many students, I was inspired to further my knowledge in the field of education. I worked diligently to complete course work to gain my masters degree in Education with a concentration in Teaching Students with Special Needs from Kaplan University online. I now desire to enhance my education and awareness not only for myself, but to benefit other students by achieving an educational supervision certification.
I consider myself very fortunate to have teachers and leaders along my educational path that were dedicated and passionate about my success and would like to make that same impact for others. I have had firsthand experience in which teachers have been positive influences in my life. My parents, who are educators, have instilled in me that once I have learned something valuable, that it is important to pass that knowledge on to others, or in this case act as guide and instruct students. I continuously encourage students to incorporate learning into their everyday living, in hopes that they will be able to contribute positively to society. Students should be encouraged to learn at their own pace in a creative and inspiring atmosphere. All children can learn given adequate support from concerned parents, well-prepared teachers, and supportive community organizations. I value education as the utmost priority in a young mind where growing and developing will make a well rounded person. I enjoy having a positive impact on someone’s life and being a good role model for students to look up to.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In order to reach all learners, as a teacher, I must consider student’s strengths as well as weaknesses. My goal is to continue to meet the needs of all of my students while responding to problems in a positive manner. It is important for educators to understand and have knowledge of learning styles in order to promote student academic success and confidence. I am flexible and constantly adapt to the changing needs of all my students by relying on the context of teaching.
