About Sandy

I love teaching and feel that learning should be a positive experience.

If a student knows how to study they can be successful, but many students have never been taught.

I have a Master's degree as a Reading Specialist as well as a Library Media Specialist. My teaching experience has been in elementary, middle school, high school, and college, with a majority as a middle school English and Reading teacher.

As an adjunct professor at Monmouth University, I taught "College Study Skills" for fifteen years. The purpose of this class was to teach students organizational strategies, note taking, vocabulary and test taking strategies to incorporate in all their classes. I am presently working as a Master Tutor at a university where I work one on one with students to improve their organizational and study strategies.

I look forward to meeting you so we can help your child reach their potential, have a successful experience, and improve their self-confidence.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught English and reading at the middle school level for over 20 years. In addition, I worked with students on a one-on-one basis as well as in small groups. I have experience with low and high levels in reading. I have also taught lower grades, as well as high school and college level students.

Phonics

I have taught and tutored the Milestones and Hooked on Phonics programs. It is important for students to develop fundamental phonic skills so they will be successful readers.

Study Skills

Study skills are important to be successful. I will help you manage your time, teach you how to set realistic goals, take notes from text and class, and prepare for tests so you will be successful in class.
I taught "College Study Skills" for fifteen years as an adjunct at Monmouth University.
I am presently working as a Master Tutor at Monmouth where I continue to work one-on-one with students to help them develop study strategies and meet success.
