About Cyndi

I have worked in the disability field for the past 6 years. I love helping a young minds become their full potential. I have worked with children to adults of about every disability qualification. From Aspergers autism, the full autistic spectrum of low sensory to over sensory stimulation and low and high functional children. I also have extensive knowledge in teaching any student and their needs, academic or behavioral. I am a qualified special education teacher and general education masters degree for a multiple disabled classroom and high behavioral needs. My children have disabilities of cerebral palsy, down syndromes, ADHD, autism, microcephaly, vision and hearing challenges, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, speech and fine motor deficits, impulse control disorders, oppositional defiant disabilities, and prader willi syndrome. I have worked with these children on behavior modification lessons, learning how to read and learn phonics, comprehension and activities of daily living skills. They have access to grade appropriate content and material that has been differentiates, modified and scaffolded to meet the needs of each individual child. I have masters in childhood general education and special education grades k to 6th. I have passed the relevant teaching certifications.

I evaluate and write and develop Individualized Educational Plans (IEP's) and functional behavior assessments along with the implementation of behavior intervention plans. I work closely with many students who all have severe speech challenges. Here is where I utilize communication devices and non verbal teaching techniques that gives every child a way to speak. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I have worked with many students with ADD/ADHD who have been dual diagnosed with severe physical or mental and physical disabilities. I am a qualified special education teacher for a multiple disabled classroom and high behavioral needs. I have worked with these children on behavior modification lessons, learning how to read and learn phonics, comprehension and activities of daily living skills. adapt lessons to instruct students who have higher attention needs and short attention spans. I am able to increase instruction with these students with straight to point individual lessons that are interactive and uses wide variety of teaching practices. Instead of sit at desk lessons students would be instructed in lessons with various media resources, games, manipulatives and movement.

Basketball

I played basketball all my childhood and adult career. I played 4 years varsity and won awards every year in defensive MVP, Offensive team MVP, MVP of the year several years in a row. I made center state all star team two years in a row and made the new York state first team all star junior nationals team. I was lead scorer and rebounder on the team as well and captain. I coached basketball camps and won few dozen awards through those as well.

Elementary (K-6th)

My undergraduate degree is in health science and disability studies. In my dual masters of science in teaching I have certification in teaching all subject areas.

Hard Of Hearing

I work with students that have disabilities of cerebral palsy, down syndromes, ADHD, autism, microcephaly, vision and hearing challenges, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, speech and fine motor deficits, impulse control disorders, oppositional defiant disabilities, prader willi syndrome. When working with students with hearing deficits it is crucial to use higher volume and the use of visuals and communication devices to increase communication. Saxophone

I have played the saxophone all my life. It really helped me express myself and become more organized and artistic. In high school I played the baritone, alto and soprano saxophone. I was first chair and section leader for all of elementary, middle and high school. I was head soloist and saxophone in marching, jazz, orchestra and concert band. I attended NYSAA state performance and played highest level 6 for my solos and performed nearly perfect. I played in Susquehanna honors band, won many awards and scholarships in school for top musician.
