Long-time Math, Science and Writing tutor!

Hello, and thanks for checking out my profile! My name is TJ. I'm 21, and have a deeply ingrained passion for science, mathematics, and writing; however, my true call is teaching.

When I was in middle school, I was asked by my math teacher to tutor a student a year younger than me that was struggling in math. That experience taught me that the only thing more rewarding than learning new things is to teach those things to others. Since then, I have worked writing and teaching innovative science courses for a local summer camp, and currently assist a group school-age students with their homework as part of an afterschool program.

My goal with each and every student I have is to endow them with the same love and passion for the subjects that I teach. I firmly believe that motivation is half the battle when trying to learn or master any subject. When a student is excited to learn, there is nothing that they cannot achieve.

Because of that, I specifically tailor a custom lesson plan for each student I have, including practice tests, problems, resources, and tips as well as provide real-world applications and new and interesting ways to learn and apply my lessons. I also take the time to get to know my students and what their likes and aspirations are. I use these to set specific goals and explain why the subjects they are learning matter to them.

I studied Mechanical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology but quickly realized that my true calling was teaching. I transferred to Montclair State University, and am currently a Physics major and Math minor. Along the way, I graduated (on the Deans' List) from Passaic County Community College with an Associates in Humanities. Additionally, I have taken multiple teacher education classes, and have a firm background in educational psychology. I am hopeful that I will have a classroom of my own by next year.
