C++,

C++

I have been writing in C++ professionally for well over a decade, and supported my project groups with C/C++ code build, library administration, Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) for X-Windows/Motif GUI, Database, Communications and tool access. My familiarity with the code generated and memory use supported debugging of crashing or malfunctioning code and memory leaks. I have built and modified many open source products, and written many libraries and tools in C++. These activities were mostly in UNIX/LINUX systems, but the principles and code are quite portable to other systems. The principles of C++ are themselves portable to JAVA and other Object Oriented (OO) languages. I can make C and C++ simple.
General Computer,

General Computer

After a professional career of 40 years in Computer Hardware and Software, and the highest standing at Drexel University earning my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a Computer Specialization. I am familiar with computer architectures, technologies, peripherals, processors, storage, operating systems, networks, protocols and most major modern programming languages: Fortran, COBOL, PL/1, Pacsal, C, C++, JAVA, PERL, shell and SQL.

Networking (Computer)

After a professional career of 40 years in Computer Hardware and Software, and the highest standing at Drexel University earning my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with a Computer Specialization, I am familiar with computer architectures, technologies, peripherals, processors, storage, operating systems, networks, protocols and most major modern programming languages: Fortran, COBOL, PL/1, Pacsal, C, C++, JAVA, PERL, shell and SQL. I was Technical Architect handling communications APIs at AT&T GCIS and contributed to the IBM Secure Network Gateway Internet Firewall design, code and tier II production support. These assignments and my independent work have made ma very familiar with a broad spectrum of modern networking devices, protocols and services.
Web Design,

Web Design

As a computer professional since the beginnings of the Internet and web, I have participated in many of the developments in the evolution of web technology. I was involved in GUI technology well before the web became the most popular GUI, and have a strong, rational grasp of the challenges, pitfalls and opportunities of the medium. I have written many web servers and web services using multiple different technologies: HTTP, HTML, CGI in C/C++/PERL/JAVA, ASP/JSP, ESQL and JDBC database access services. I am familiar with the capabilities of JavaScript/ECMA-Script and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). My approach to web design is to keep it simple and versatile, and to focus on good ergonomics. There are so many mechanisms you can use, but usually should not! Dynamic web content adds additional challenges. The incoming content flow needs to be friendly to the providers and maintainers of the web site. I focus on the big picture of roles and media that intersect on the web site. I show the various ways to deal gracefully with data sets that vary widely in size. I am an active participant in the use of Web 3.0 technologies like FaceBook and LinkedIn, which can be powerful tools in modern web design.

History

Bible Studies,

Bible Studies

Starting with my earliest years as a Presbyterian Pastor's son, I have studied and interpreted the Bible in many roles and situations. While I took one course in prep school, Wyoming Seminary, most of the rest of my training is not formal. I was a Basic and then Certified Lay Speaker in the Greater NJ Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. I have been a member of the Presbyterian Church USA, the United Church of Christ (both Congregational and Evangelical and Reformed sides) and the United Methodist Church. I use multiple translations and computer searches to help put the scriptures into context, and to reveal the history and various interpretations of a passage. I have a very liberal and ecumenical approach to the scriptures as sacred texts of many faiths, with a focus on how they can unite us and guide us in positive directions.
Religion,

Religion

As an avid student of religion and philosophy, I have made a study of world religions, their different perspectives, their shared ancestry and their unique and sometimes incompatible elements. I have continuing discussions or each religion's view of itself and other religions with members of many of the world's religions. The Internet brings me many resources from within the religious communities not antithetical to technology, and from other scholars of religion and philosophy. As a liberal Protestant with an ecumenical philosophy, I look for inclusive perspectives into other religions. One fascinating area of study is the difficulty of finding the division between religion and government, law, economy and science. As the world contracts due to technical advances and emigration due to population growth, religions face many challenges. One of the biggest challenges to be recognized is the growth of anti-religion and nonreligious secular spirituality and ethical standards.

Exceptionally knowledgable, patient & utterly patient tutor on all things SQL & beyond

I had a lot of questions with respect to how to use SQL. David is truly a gifted and superb tutor, who patiently and kindly assisted in addressing any question raised. His depth of knowledge on SQL as well as discrete mathematics and data structures used in computers is superb. He has the unique ability to take complex subjects and break them down into manageable bit sized nuggets of information that allow the end user to understand them. I couldn't be happier to have found a tutor like David and am truly in his debt. I will definitely reach out to him again and again, whenever I have such questions! Thank you again, David, for being such an utter and complete professional!
