Fordham University, Bronx, NY (Communications)
Lindenwood University, St. Charles, MO (MEd)
Dear Prospective Parents and Students,
After graduating from Fordham University with a B.A. in Communications, my first career was in public relations, in particular sports public relations. After marrying and staying at home with my daughter until she entered kindergarten, I returned to school to obtain my teaching certification in elementary education from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
I taught for 11 years in the Rockwood School District in suburban St. Louis. During that time, I earned my Master's Degree in Education as a Library Media Specialist from Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO.
In 2011, with my now-grown daughter moving to Chicago, I decided to fulfill a dream of mine to live at the beach. After 25 years in the Midwest, I returned back East (I'm originally from Pennsylvania) and re-located to Cape May, NJ.
For the past two years, I have been an adjunct instructor in English and College Skills at Atlantic Cape Community College. In addition, I am the part-time library media specialist and computer teacher for West Cape May Elementary School.
I also substitute for both Cape May and West Cape May Elementary Schools. I tutor middle schoolers after school, as well. I have tutored on and off for 13 years, all age and grade ranges. in all subjects.
Despite the economy and the challenge of finding employment in an area where I didn't know a soul, I have found employment in education encompassing all of the areas I truly love -- teacher of children & young (and older) adults, library media specialist (I love sharing my love of reading) and one-on-one reading and writing tutor.
I have been fingerprinted and had a background check completed in New Jersey in the summer of 2011. I am also certified in New Jersey as both a teacher(grades K-6) and as a Library Media Specialist (grades K-12). A copy of the documents are available upon request.
Thank you for considering me as a tutor for your child!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified in New Jersey as an elementary teacher (K-6). I was a classroom teacher for 11 years. For the past two years, I have been the librarian and computer teacher for grades kindergarten through sixth at a local elementary school.
For the past two years, I taught college skills, which includes study skills, as a developmental course at a local community college. Also, as a certified elementary teacher (K-6) and a certified library media specialist (K-12), I believe study skills are very much a part of the curriculum. I feel my previous and current experience qualify me to teach these important skills.
Mary M. has not yet had a background check. After sending a message to Mary, you will be able to order a background check for $7.99. The check will be processed by First Advantage. For more information, please review the background check information page.
