I am two classes short of my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I completed my student teaching, and I am currently tutoring three private students in language arts. I enjoy every minute of our time together. We concentrate on reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, and writing.

I am two classes short of my Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I completed my student teaching, and I am currently tutoring three private students in language arts. I enjoy every minute of our time together. We concentrate on reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, and writing.

I taught a class of 15 four-year-old children with my AA in early childhood Education. By the end of the year half of them could read. Although I do not believe children that age should be pushed to read early, believing that play is their work and the way they learn, I had to respect the parents wishes. I knew that my love for children would ensure that I taught them with love and patience. So I decided to take on the challenge.

I am looking forward to meeting with you and discussing how I can help and encourage you to meet your goals. Your future is in your hands. It will be one of happiness, one of pride and productivity if you reach out and grab it. I would like to help you do so.

Reading

When I was first out of college in my early twenties I had an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. One of the places I taught was a church program, a full day nursery school for babies through kindergarten. Both my children were in the program. In fact my 4 year old was in my class. The parents in this school wanted to see that their children were being taught letters and numbers. I did not really think that children should do anything but play and be read to. But I had to do as the parents wished, so I taught the students, among other things, their letters and the sounds of the letters. Then we moved on to the long and short vowel sounds. To make a long story short, by the end of the year about half the class was reading. Furthermore many of them came at the beginning not speaking English. This school was in Miami Florida. I believe in phonics, which went out of style in education for a long time. But if you don't teach phonics how are students supposed to be able to sound out words. There are many other reading strategies which you would not know unless you had been teaching for a while and studying the subject. I would love to share those strategies with you.

I am a test taking wiz. I never met a test I didn't think of as fun. Really it is just a matter of knowing some strategies and tricks. It is also a matter of realizing that the test score, good, bad, or indifferent is not a measure of you as a human being.

I took the PA Praxis exam in 2004 and received a perfect score. I have always been very good at test taking and a very good writer. In fact I have just started writing my first novel.
