Albright College (Spanish)
Rutgers University (MEd)
I graduated from Albright College with a BA in Spanish. During my junior year, I lived and studied in Madrid, Spain. I traveled extensively throughout Spain and Europe. I have traveled to 15 countries. I received my Master's from Rutgers Univerisity. I have taught high school Spanish for 12 years and currently have been teaching college for the last four years. I have also been tutoring for ten years. I am a hands on teacher who makes learning a language fun and interesting. I use pictures and real life situations to teach the vocabulary and grammar. I have unique ways to help students remember difficult words and grammatical concepts. I have many materials I can use for tutoring. I have educational games, stories, fun mini plays, and dialogues to help Spanish come to life. I give students a lot of repetition and practice so they can truly learn and speak the language. I focus on when to use the tenses and grammatical structures in speech. It doesn't help if you know how to conjugate a verb but not know when to use it. I love tutoring all levels of Spanish. I explain concepts very well and give clear examples so the students understand. I always have a great rapport with my students. They find it easy to talk to me and feel comfortable asking me questions. In my free time, I love sports, especially baseball and football. I am a big Yankee fan! I love going to games with my husband. I also love animals and I have a dog. I come from a family of educators. My father taught Math (Calculus) for 42 years in high school and college. My brother is also a History teacher in Virginia. I also teach ESL to native Spanish speakers. I am in daily contact with people from many different Spanish speaking countries such as Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico. Therefore, even though I studied in Spain, I am familiar with many other Spanish dialects. This experience has made me a more well-rounded Spanish educator.

Linda seemed to understand right away my son's issues with preterit and irregular verbs. In the one hour of tutoring, he ended up with a 95 on his Spanish quiz!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
