3) Observe student problem solving in an attempt to identify areas of difficulty as well as
either correcting or solidifying approaches to problem solving.
4) Teach or reteach topics, clarify areas of uncertainty or confusion, assist with homework,
and also provide direction or guidance on projects, papers, and presentations.
5) I do provide my email address and phone number so my tutees can send me issues or

Knowing that I had wanted to be a mathematics teacher since 8th grade, I made it utmost importance to strive for a strong mathematics education program at a local, well-respected university. Earning a bachelor's degrees in both mathematics and secondary education at Rider University, I was well prepared to take on the challenges and rewards of being a high school math at a local high school from 2001 to the present. I have taught the full gambit of mathematics classes over that course of time including but not limited to the following:

1) AP Calculus AB (6 years)
2) Honors Trigonometry / Precalculus (Current since 2013)
3) Algebra 2 (11 years)
4) Honors Geometry (Current since 2016)
5) Geometry (Current, since 2005)
6) Algebra 1 (Current, since 2001)

As a tutor, I understand that going over homework and preparing for assessments is of utmost importance, however I strive to assist students that I tutor in exploring the topics that they cover quickly within the classroom setting. Mastery of topics via completing math tasks in a variety of methods from a plethora of viewpoints is extremely important. Out of the box thinking from time to time can be a key to the success of students in mathematics and is something I work hard to help students achieve.

In addition to tutoring sessions, I offer the opportunity for students to make some inquiries regarding math problems they face during the off-time between sessions through e-mail. As I know there are times when topics become difficult when we least expect it, I attempt to quell immediate issues for students so there is a level of comfort leading into the next session.

Teaching for understanding

Gary is excellent at helping his students come to the correct conclusion themselves. By having them work through a problem while he asks about their approach, he is able to see how they think and in turn help steer their thinking in the correct direction. This leads to true, deep learning and has helped my son grow leaps and bounds in his knowledge and love of math. I very highly recommend Gary.

Wow! Amazing!

Gary is incredible every time he meets with my daughter. She is always amazed at how things become clear after she see him. He takes the time to understand the way she thinks, her tendencies, and explains things so that she understands!

Kathryn, 24 lessons with Gary

Patient and explores options!

Gary works with my daughter on Geometry and he not only advises on how I can help her when he's not there (I don't do math!), but he looks through her materials to analyze how her teachers might be teaching and looks for multiple ways to explain things. He helps make sense of concepts that are not always easy to understand and gives simple remedies to help break things down to the lowest level. Great tutor and super happy that we connected.

He gives me confidence to keep pushing and solve the problem without thinking twice about the results. Great sessions with Gary

Easy to work with!

Gary really worked to help me understand the content. He wanted me to understand what I was trying to solve not just show me how to do the math problems. Knowledgeable and easy to work with and very responsive to email.

First Session

Gary seemed to connect right away with my son. He worked through pre-calc concepts that my son was confused by and by the end of the lesson my son felt more confident. Looking forward to our next tutoring session and so is my son.

Knowledgabe and Patient

Gary went over Chapter 7 Test in Geometry. He also went over great studying skills and habits that Killian should start using. Killian scored a 91 on his Chapter 7 Test and a 95 on his Chapter 8 Test.

Gary was able to motivate my son to do better

Gary connected with my son. He evaluated the issues very accurately. Gary was able to motivate my son to do better, and to identify my son's mathematical inadequacies. I look forward to having my son continue to work with Gary.
