Muhlenberg College (Math and Chemistry)
Hello! I graduated from Muhlenberg College in May 2011 with a double major in math and chemistry, and I have been tutoring with WyzAnt since November 2011.
I have loved math since I was little, but there were numerous times where I would get upset or frustrated when a math concept did not make sense. I was also notorious for making careless mistakes in high school and middle school. The only remedy I could find to these ailments was by repeatedly asking myself how I knew my answer was correct. With this clear purpose in mind, I found myself understanding more concepts in less time as I did my homework each night. I continued studying and preparing with this clear purpose in mind, and I found myself doing better on tests. After challenging myself to come up with procedures and methods for doing any and all problems, I now attach significant importance to the ability to check an answer. I hope to share as many good habits, tips, and strategies as possible with students so they can have the confidence to enable them too to succeed on tests, homework, quizzes, and organization.
I would occasionally get in front of the class in high school and teach concepts, and my love of learning continued throughout college, especially when I was exposed to organic chemistry. I hosted workshops, and I still love and enjoy organic chemistry immensely. I am now concentrated on being the best tutor and teacher possible. It is crucial that I be efficient and effective, and I truly enjoy being responsible and making adequate preparations before each session.
WyzAnt has connected me with countless families, and I am grateful for the opportunities presented to me. I have enjoyed teaching, challenging students, sharing test-taking strategies, and seeing my students succeed.
Good luck with your learning, and I hope to hear from you soon! Hello! I graduated from Muhlenberg College in May 2011 with a double major in math and chemistry, and I have been tutoring with WyzAnt since November 2011.

Alex has been tutoring our daughter this summer in Algebra 1. For three months he worked with her on graphing, factoring, linear equations and all of the fundamentals of Algebra 1 twice a week.
Alex is always on time, he is extremely patient and very smart. He would make practice tests after an hour lesson and give our daughter extra work before her next session.
He was always thinking ahead, he taught her how to master math equations and he gave our daughter the confidence she needed to succeed. We would not hesitate to use Alex again in the future. He is an excellent tutor.
Alexander is a great tutor. He always arrives on time and doesn't hesitate to stay longer if necessary. He is also available to talk to outside of class on the phone if I have any question regarding precalculus. He is flexible with his hours. He is passionate about the subject and is very knowledgeable. He teaches the student to really understand the subject rather than study superficially just to obtain a good grade. It takes a while for his lessons to have an effect on the student but once you adapt to his teaching style it pays off because you begin to understand the concepts rather than simply memorizing a formula.
He is patient and will always go over something again if you don't understand it the first time.
Overall a great tutor.
I want to thank Alexander for helping my daughter with calculus in such a brilliant way! Her understanding, and her grades for that matter, improved a great deal.
We couldn't be more lucky! We contacted Alexander on Sunday evening and by Monday late morning he contacted us. My daughter got her first lesson in that same afternoon. He was patient, very knowledgeable and clear. He showed up a little early and didn't mind to stay a little longer to finish. My daughter felt already benefit after her first lesson. I highly recommend him.
Alex all I can say is a tremendous tutor my sons grades in chemistry were raised immediately. can't give higher praise he relates and communicates so well his pupil Grade A+.
My son benefited from Alex's tutoring even on the just the first session. Alex's background and experience are a good match for my son's needs. I wish we had done this sooner.
Alex is tutoring my daughter in precalculus. Alex comes prepared and arrives on time. He makes sure my daughter understands the concepts and follows up on any questions she has. I highly recommend Alex as a tutor. Followup: My daughter's teacher commented that she is doing better in class and her grades are improving.
My daughter needed some help in AP Calculus and Alex was able to explain things in a way that made it clear to her. You can tell he really enjoys math and easily connected with my daughter and her friend who sat in on the session. Highly recommended!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I teach Algebra 1 with care because it is highly relevant to future endeavors in both math and science courses. I focus on teaching about variables, which often deal with a linear slope. Being able to solve algebraic problems that deal with these two issues is important, and I am and have been able to teach students how to navigate these problems successfully.
Graphs of lines and inequalities, variables, and slope are ideas that each carry weight as one progresses through higher level math courses.
Unfortunately, algebra is often seen as problematic due to the massive amount of symbols used. I combat this by helping my students see what the algebraic notation is describing (on a graph for example) so that it makes sense to them. In this way, graphing an inequality makes sense.
Algebra 2 students are tasked with putting their previous knowledge to the test. This is where we first see conic sections, the unit circle, and roots of real and complex functions. Inverse functions are introduced as well.
I really enjoy teaching algebra 2, which is just as important a course as algebra 1. I have recent experience tutoring advanced algebra 2 courses successfully, and I enjoy the challenge of bridging algebra 2 with geometry, trigonometry, and precalculus.
I give Calculus significant respect, mostly because of how demanding and stressful it can be to those who choose to learn or teach it. I remember needing a tutor when I first took Calculus as a senior in high school. Frankly, the subject was frustrating. We are constantly tested with connecting ideas from a variety of previous courses, as graphs, real numbers, and functions remain important at all levels of Calculus.
It took me years to finally get comfortable with Calculus, but I hope to retain the information forever. I focused primarily on Calculus as an undergraduate in college, and I am always happy to help someone who takes on this challenging course.
It is important to mention that a good Calculus student is a busy Calculus student. Attention to detail is essential, and a successful Calc student should expect to work through countless practice problems.
I have a B.S. in Chemistry with prior work experience dealing with organic chemistry research. The majority of my lab experience deals with organic chemistry and all relevant techniques.
Organic chemistry was my favorite subject out of all the chemistry topics. I took the course as a sophomore in college, but prepared the summer prior to organic chemistry I. I tutored organic chemistry for multiple years while in college and would be more than happy to assist if possible. I still read the textbook to keep the information fresh.
