I have personal experience tutoring the SAT verbal section, writing, algebra, all major subjects within the social studies, Spanish, and English as a second language. By trade, I am a certified high school Social Studies and Spanish teacher with five years of experience in the classroom, including one year spent teaching abroad in Chile. I currently teach Advanced Placement United States History and Criminology. Additionally, I have state certifications as both a K-6 general elementary teacher and as a teacher of English/Language Arts (ELA) in grades 5-8.
Students find me approachable, patient, easy to work with and most importantly able to help them raise their confidence and skills in the desired subject areas. Through a mixture of methodologies and techniques, I always strive to help students reach their goals. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have always done well with mathematical concepts. I have efficient and commonsense ways of explaining what may seem like complicated mathematical concepts. I enjoy helping students to build confidence with mathematics as well as real-world applications for algebra.
I have five years of teaching experience with U.S. history. In fact, my "day job" is as a history teacher. I teach Advanced Placement United States History and I am a certified instructor for the Advanced Placement exam. I am of course certified as a Social Studies teacher.
I am a certified Social Studies teacher in the state of New Jersey. For the past two years, I have taught an elective in Criminal Justice at the high school level. I have a strong knowledge of content pertinent to the subject, especially as related to theories of crime causation, the functioning of law enforcement agencies, courts and the correctional system. I likewise have a strong knowledge of case law as related to fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth amendment rights. I have utilized the textbook Criminal Justice in Action (6th edition) by Larry K. Gaines and Roger LeRoy Miller as a class text.
As a history teacher by trade, I possess a strong command of the English language, a rich vocabulary, and I am very well-read. I can make frequent connections between history and literature. Furthermore, I am certified as a teacher of English and Language arts in grades 5-8.
I have excelled with various Praxis II tests. I achieved a perfect score of 200/200 on the Social Studies Content Knowledge Test, a 193/200 on the Middle School English/Language Arts Test, a 189/200 on the Elementary Content Knowledge Test, and a 188 on the Spanish Content Knowledge Test. I am knowledgeable of the strategies needed to succeed on these tests and can help students to gain the necessary insights to excel.

I spent a full academic year living and teaching Chile. I am a certified K-12 Spanish teacher in the State of New Jersey. I have experience tutoring students 1:1 in the Spanish language. I am patient, able to explain linguistic concepts readily, and help students to develop greater levels of confidence in the language.
First and foremost, I am certified in four unique subjects, Social Studies, Elementary Education, Spanish, and Middle School Language Arts. This being said, I am very organized and can help students to hone their skills in terms of general organization and practices. I have helped students to get a handle of their organizational practices in the past. I can demonstrate to students how being organized can be one of the keys to success. In terms of study skills, I can offer students various techniques and methods by which to improve their retention and application of academic skills.
I spent a full academic year in Chile where I taught English as a foreign language in a secondary school. I currently teach English as a foreign language as part of a summer program for foreign students. I am clear and explain language concepts efficiently.
As teacher of high school level history, I am acutely aware of the finer points of the writing process. I am highly capable of helping students to hone their writing, research and organizational skills. I have an eye for detail and can help to edit research papers, essays, book reports and pretty much any other student writing.
