Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

As an undergrad at Seton Hall University, I received a dual degree in secondary education and history, with a minor in classical studies and a certificate in technology. The history degree included allied field courses in psychology, sociology, philosophy, geography, political science, and economics. Additionally, I am in my third year of teaching at the secondary education level. Classes taught include, US1, US2, World, Modern World, and Psychology.

Classics

I studied Education and History at Seton Hall University, receiving a BS and a MA. During my undergrad, I took an array of history courses, to satisfy the history requirements. In doing so, I also earned a minor in Classical Studies, focusing on Greek and Roman civilization and mythology.

Elementary (K-6th)

Though my teaching certification is in secondary education, I have extensive experience working with elementary students. I have tutored students in this age group before and been successful. Also, I have years experience teaching at an enrichment program for elementary school students (classes include typing, computers, cooking, and more). Lastly, I have worked for the last 5 summers as an instructor and now director of a technology camp that caters to students in elementary school.

Social Studies

As an undergrad at Seton Hall University, I received a dual degree in secondary education and history, with a minor in classical studies and a certificate in technology. Study Skills

As a certified, experienced teacher (6 years), I always stress the importance of study and organizational skills. With my students, I require them to develop an individualized study system that maximizes their learning. This could include rereading, notes, note carts, lists, outlines, and graphic organizers, to transform content into something the student can understand. It is these skills I would like to make available to potential tutoring students.
