Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT English

I completed my Harvard English Degree in 2009. For several years, I have been studying the ACT and best methods for improving scores on that test.

Elementary (K-6th)

Since 2010 I have held a Louisiana State teaching license. I began my teaching career in 2009 as a founding member of a "No Excuses" public charter school in New Orleans, where I taught first grade for two years. My class had been infants during the Katrina disaster, and as such they were in great educational need, but we founded our school with the belief that all of them could go to college. I received professional development training through the University of Chicago's STEP reading program and prominent teacher trainer Doug Lemov.

Later, I taught grades five through eight at an independent school in New York City. I was given the opportunity to lead a unique class focused on increasing vocabulary. I used the most up-to-date proven academic research in teaching this class.

In addition to these experiences, I have had years of experience tutoring children of all ages at elite private institutions. Including my English literature study at Harvard, I have a wide knowledge of and experience in the teaching of literacy, and the disciplines required to succeed in a classroom setting.

Elementary Math

I taught first grade for 2 years in the public school system in Louisiana, and subsequently taught middle school in New York. I graduated Harvard and received a 1550 on my SATs. I am highly qualified to teach elementary math.

English

I have a Harvard University Bachelor's in English, 2009

Reading

I have a Harvard Bachelor's of Arts Degree in English Literature, 300+ hours professional development with University of Chicago STEP (Strategic Teaching and Evaluation of Progress) reading system, a Louisiana State Teachers License, and nearly 10 years of tutoring experience.

SAT Math

After earning a Harvard degree in English, I began tutoring all aspects of the SATs. I've relied on the books of Steve Warner to develop my approach to teaching the Math section of the SATs.

SAT Reading

Once I earned my Harvard English degree, I began teaching all aspects of the SATs as a private tutor. I particularly enjoy the work of Erica Meltzer in breaking down the Verbal section.

Study Skills

My professional teaching experience includes years spent teaching first graders of high-needs and others teaching middle-school. I learned to cultivate a compassionate yet firm method of organization in my classroom. Students must learn to pay attention to their own discovery process, and seek to improve it from a "clinical" standpoint.

My knowledge and commitment to effective study habits has been shaped by my personal success at elite private education institutions, including Harvard University and the St. Mark's School of Texas, a premier private boys school in Dallas.

Writing

I have a degree from Harvard University in Bachelor of Arts, English Literature from 2009, which includes Writing.
