Take great photos with your digital camera. Learn how to use your point and shoot or single lens reflex (SLR) camera. I am a recently retired college professor from Stevens Institute of Technology as well as an experienced photographer that loves to teach adults and teenagers. I have over 15 years experience with digital photography- all makes of cameras, software, archival printing and file management. My approach is one of teaching photography as a process- we learn by doing and you will learn how to set up your camera, expose properly, export images from your camera to your computer so you can file them, name them, and organize them for editing, posting on social media and printing at home or via the web. My focus is on the image and not on the technology. You will learn as much of the technology as you need to accomplish your goals and take beautiful photos.
We will work out a plan based on your goals and the number of lessons you want. I have taught digital photography for many years with great results. Having taught at the college level and I am very experienced in moving at the right pace based on the students progress. I am flexible and will structure the session based on your needs not mine. Steven taught me a lot of that I need to take great photos on my upcoming safari. Will definitely use him again for another lesson or two! I highly recommend him as he is patient and open to questions and exploring other photo topics.
Steven is helping me to move away from the automatic settings on my digital SLR and master the manual settings. In the first lesson he assessed what I already knew, then clearly presented how to adjust ISO, aperture and shutter speed settings to achieve good image quality, as well as how to achieve a good white balance.
Steven came prepared for the lesson even with back up handouts. He taught me a number functions on my Nikon 7000. I found Steven patient and an enthusiastic teacher.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
