I'm exclusively an SAT/ACT tutor. I provide value to parents by consistently outperforming even the highest-priced tutors.
I draw on both years of experience as a course instructor for a premier test prep company and my background in cognitive psychology to personalize my approach for each new student. I weave cutting-edge test-taking strategies into individualized lessons. With every student, I begin by carefully observing how the student naturally proceeds as a test-taker. I then tailor my instruction toward my student's strengths, making sure that each student feels challenged yet motivated.
I have a strong track record of success: I've tutored some students toward perfect SAT 800's/ACT 36's and others out of trouble-zones into respectability. Whether a student is intellectually gifted or requires specialized instruction, I always proceed at a pace and in a style that instills confidence. My students like me, but they also realize that I hold them to a high degree of excellence: I expect their best.
In addition to providing effective tutoring, I coordinate weekend morning practice exams to ensure that my students practice their new skills in a simulated test day environment: a weekend morning classroom surrounded by unfamiliar students. Real-time feedback is vital for assessing where students are improving and where they need to reexamine their strategy. As a tutor, it's important to have a sober picture of where my students are.
As for my background, I have a master's degree in psychology, and when I am not dedicating myself toward my students' test day success, I am working toward a second master's in statistics. I'm exclusively an SAT/ACT tutor. I provide value to parents by consistently outperforming even the highest-priced tutors.

Ari takes a holistic approach to tutoring. He reviewed the trouble spots from my son’s prior ACT tests and tailored his approach accordingly. We just got my son’s scores back and his scores dramatically improved and his rank went from the 93rd to the 98th percentile. He was incredibly conscientious and really connected with my son.
Update Spring 2014 - Thanks Ari... my son got into his dream school - Boston College!
Ari related to my son well and knew what areas to focus on for him. We don't have his results backbyet, but if the practice tests are a good indication, I would expect him to pick up 100 points on math.
Ari takes his tutoring above and beyond what other tutors do. He takes a strong interest in making sure his students succeed.
Ari is able to engage his students and keep them focused on material presented. He also let's them know activities outside of school are good, too. He is a great tutor.
My son is 13 and while he is pretty smart has been difficult lately with complaints from teachers and coaches about how he holds himself. I was worried if my son would listen and establish a good enough connection with a tutor for it to be a good productive experience for both of them. Ari managed to get my son to talk and open up more than anyone else, including his therapist. So Ari certainly has a good way to approach a teen and make him participate and focus on work.
Ari is very patient yet thorough with my daughter. My only regret is not having met him sooner this school year.
Ari is a great tutor who does not waste the student's time and cuts straight to the heart of what needs to be learned and practiced. He is easy to get along with and always reachable and reliable. Having Ari tutoring him helped my son stay focused and willing to put the effort into improving his SAT score.
I was very skeptical about hiring a tutor. Many people told me that there was no way to study for the SAT. Ari's profile sounded perfect. He had worked in tutoring and in actual testing companies for many years. After just one session, my son went up 150 points overall on his practice SAT including 100 points in critical reading, which was the only section that they had reviewed. Ari is very flexible with lesson times, offers additional hours of free proctored test time at his house and shows up right on time! He is a wonderful tutor, and due to their similar personalities as well as career aspirations, is serving to be a mentor for my son as well.
Ari is tutoring my son for the upcoming SAT test. Ari is patient, knowledgeable, and able to adjust his teaching methods so my son can grasp the material at his own pace. We looked at many SAT tutors and we found that Ari has the knowledge, experience, and the ability to relate to his students that not all the other tutors had.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Consistently, my students improve most on ACT English thanks to a teaching method I developed that ensures functional knowledge of ACT grammar and writing concepts. I discovered early on that theoretical knowledge does not translate to ACT English performance. Briefly, by explaining the concepts in practical terms but only when students make errors, I've found that I am able to instill functional abilities: Students are able to immediately recognize and correct the errors that the ACT presents.
ACT Reading is a very difficult section. They only way to improve ACT Reading scores meaningfully and consistently is to teach students to become stronger readers. Strong reading comprehension begins not by understanding sentences, but rather by thinking about paragraphs. Most students do not learn or discover this naturally, but require assisted guidance. Effective critical reading should feel different.
I have a Master's in Psychology, which provides me with a thorough understanding of the challenges (and gifts!) associated with Aspergers and autism as well as the ways in which to approach tutoring these individuals. I have tutored students across the spectrum.
I have experience teaching the GRE.
SAT Math can be daunting for many students. In my years tutoring SAT Math, I've found that by providing my students with a step-by-step method and a series of problem specific strategies, they approach the Math Section with confidence and score considerably higher.
Many students dread the SAT Reading section because they find it confusing. What many students don't realize is that SAT Reading requires a new type of reading: They cannot approach SAT passages like they would a Harry Potter novel. Test specific annotation techniques and a careful understanding of the question types allow students to remove themselves from their "casual reading" habits.
The Writing Section is tough even for students who are good writers. Some students are naturally able to identify problematic phrases, but for most, they must learn the specific techniques for the Writing Section. More than any other SAT section, the SAT Writing Section is the most learnable and the easiest to improve.
I have a Master's in Psychology, which provides me with a thorough understanding of many of the unique challenges of special needs students as well as ways to work with the strengths of these students.
I'm currently in a M.S. Statistics program. I tutor all levels of high school statistics, including AP statistics as well as some college level statistics.
