Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have earned a BSBA and MBA in finance, and a PhD in Management, with my electives in finance. I have been an assistant professor of business for ten years, and have also tutored accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and management at the college undergraduate and graduate level, while also earning teaching awards based on student learning, development, and success.
I was the co-advisor for the NY Federal Reserve college challenge on Monetary Policy and global economics, and participated in six seminars on Monetary Policy at the NY Federal Reserve. I have also presented at academic conferences in Chicago and Orlando.

Economics

I have taught macro economics, micro economics, economic theory, and the NY Federal Reserve collegiate challenge on Monetary policy and global economic indicators/conditions for more than ten years. I was instrumental in curriculum design, assessment, and accreditation for the economics concentration.

My students were engaged in student centered and active learning, participating in group projects and presentations, economic tracking of GDP, CPI, employment, exchange rates, interest rates, yield curves, financial markets, among others. We participated in six seminars on Monetary policy at the NY Federal Reserve.

Finance

I earned a BS and an MBA in finance from an AACSB accredited university. My teaching experience includes teaching introduction to finance, investments, corporate finance, monetary institutions, money and banking, and the NY Federal Reserve College challenge on Monetary policy, a collegiate competition forecasting the Federal funds interest rate based on economic and financial indicators. I implement active and student centered learning, positive attitude, encouraging participation and feedback. We have an open QA session in each class and analyze how theory relates to financial models and case analysis. Concepts such as time value of money, net present value, cost of capital, asset allocation, investments and retirement planning, financial instruments, credit ratings, earnings per share, dividend yield, interest rate, yield curves, beta, alpha, r-square, and Treynor, Jensen, and Sharpe statistical measures. My corporate experience includes being licensed with a series 7, 52, 63, 65, life, health, variable and fixed annuities at HR block and Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. Furthermore, I have presented at the International academy of finance conference in Chicago, and the Clute Institute Academic conference on college teaching and learning in Orlando, FL.

Financial Accounting

I have helped create the business curriculum and required classes in each concentration at our college. I taught financial and managerial accounting, cost accounting, and many classes in corporate finance, having earned my BS and MBA in finance. I actively taught how to prepare the income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flow, and statement of retained earnings for publicly listed companies on the NYSE, NASDAQ, and AMEX. I taught generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), but discussed with students that we are transitioning to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). We analyzed and evaluated the 10K and 10Q report and the students presented their audit simulation on a fictionalized company with other professors present. Career wise, I discussed certifications such as the CPA, CMA, CFA, and CFP, with the students.

Tax Preparation

I have taught college students how to prepare their tax returns. This included active learning among all students, analyzing and preparing tax returns. I grew the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and was certified at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels with the IRS. The students learned how to read and analyze all income tax documents used to prepare the return. This included the W2, W4, 1099-int, 1099-div., ordinary vs. qualified dividends, short and long term capital gains and losses, life insurance premiums, standard vs. itemized deductions, Roth vs. traditional ira, mortgage interest, earned income tax credit, Keogh, Sep-Ira, pensions, Ira and 401k distributions, adjusted gross income, and taxable income. Also, we analyzed the differences between the sole proprietorship, partnership, c-corp., s-corp., and LLC. Students learned the line items on form 1040A and 1040EZ, and when and how to use schedule A, B, C, D. We also learned how Medicare part B is taken into consideration, and that there is currently a $3000 loss carry forward maximum per year against ordinary income. The students also learned about amendments and how to file for extensions.
