I specialize in tutoring all subjects of the SAT and ACT and in helping students identify and then apply to the best colleges for them. Having earned a BA in math at Vassar College, I am always happy to help with high school and college math courses as well.
My background in tutoring includes ten years of private math, writing, SAT, and ACT instruction, and work as a Head Teacher of an SAT program at Poughkeepsie High School. My responsibilities at this program included designing an SAT prep curriculum used by all teachers and conducting my own classes. In conjunction with education courses I took at Vassar, these teaching experiences have allowed me to develop strong pedagogical strategies.
My teaching focuses on personalizing each lesson to each individual student. Every student is unique in his or her background, interests, goals, and needs, and I create unique lesson plans for every student that align with these characteristics. Tailored education allows students to interact with material in the most efficient ways for their learning style and means that lessons are delivered in a way that makes sense to each student.
At the same time, working with the student's interests, we can create engaging lessons that keep motivation high and have a long-lasting impact on the student. Let's be honest -- SATs and ACTs can be extremely dull subjects, and if done “by the book,” preparation for these exams can be painfully boring.
