Hi There!
A recent graduate from Villanova University, I majored in Humanities, minored in Communications, and received a concentration in Writing and Rhetoric. While in school, I tutored members of the track team in philosophy and theology, and english classes. I also worked in the writing center as a writing tutor, which involved proof-reading and editing papers, as well as equipping students with the proper tools to improve their writing. Most recently, I have delved into the world of the GRE and feel confident I can help improve scores in the verbal/writing section. I am very passionate about both reading and writing, and would love the opportunity to help others develop their skills! Please e-mail me if you think I can be of assistance.

Public Speaking

As a communications major at Villanova, one of our big focuses was public speaking and social demeanor in both professional and academic arenas. Using the techniques and tips learned in our classes, we were able to really perfect our tactics when it comes to pubic presentation and persuasion. Besides the basic "public speaking" course, I was involved in a "performance of literature" class/ club, which focused on spoken word poetry and performative literature, as well as a business oriented course which entailed creating and presenting PowerPoint presentations every couple of weeks. Additionally, I was involved in Toastmasters International, "...A nonprofit educational organization that operates clubs worldwide for the purpose of helping members improve their communication, public speaking, and leadership skills. Through its thousands of member clubs, Toastmasters International offers a program of communication and leadership projects designed to help people learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking..." (Wikipedia) However, what I feel sets me apart as a tutor is my belief in connecting with and understanding the student first, and the root cause of WHY a student may be lacking in a certain area. Is public speaking a struggle because they lack confidence? Articulation? Pronunciation, or reading skills? If it is a confidence issue, what makes the student feel insecure? Is it a cognitive or emotional issue? Asking these questions helps me to more fully understand the student as a human being, and gives me a better platform to help them in the way that is unique to them! And I am confident once this happens, I can help them to be successful.
