When I decided to be a stay at home mom, we chose to begin our children's education with home-schooling. I taught my oldest son from kindergarten through 5th grade. I home-schooled by daughter from kindergarten through 3rd grade. At that point they were placed in a small traditional Catholic school. At that time I home-schooled by third child from kindergarten through second grade. At this point I began teaching at the school and continued having her as my student for the next two years.
Subsequently I taught at at this small private school grades 3 and 4 (combined class) for 11 years. This at times included by fourth and fifth child. In addition I worked with grade 2 on writing (composition) skills, as well as, working with 5th and 6th grades on writing skills; research papers, compare and contrast essays.
I prefer user friendly workbooks; i.e. A Beka and Modern Curriculum Press but will adapt to whatever materials the student is familiar with. At the most basic level, I have a great program to teach young children to read. My philosophy has always been to set students up to succeed rather than fail. I believe encouragement can go a very long way. When I decided to be a stay at home mom, we chose to begin our children's education with home-schooling. Margie is teaching my 8 years old daughter, she is awesome! We definitely would recommend her as a tutor. She is kind and responsible and always talks to me about the progress my daughter has made. I greatly appreciated and my daughter loves to study with her. We are so lucky to find Margie!
Always looking ahead to help my son. My son likes her and her style. Very personable and friendly. Willing to bring materials to work with on her own. Proactive and keeps in touch with me.
Margie is currently tutoring our 2nd grader and he has improved tremendously since she started working with him.
Very satisfied with her services.
Ms. Margie is a very good tutor. She made my son engage in her lesson without crying or complaining. I wish I could hire her for one hour everyday just to make him to his homework. I am pretty sure with her help my son will be reading on his own very soon. She is easy to reach, fast to answer emails, and on time. She has good teaching materials and great ideas for improving his reading.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to home-schooling the early academic education of my three older children, I taught 3rd and 4th grades at a small private school for 11 years.
I home-schooled three of my children in Phonics grades 1 through 4. I used Modern Curriculum Press Plaid Phonics series. Following this, I taught Phonics at 3rd and 4th grade levels using the same curriculum.
