I have been teaching ESL for over 20 years, both in the classroom and as a tutor. I have taught as a profession and as a volunteer in the U.S. and overseas, and have worked with students from many language backgrounds. I earned a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the New School in New York, and also a Master's Degree from Columbia University in Russian Language and Literature. I also possess a BA in Russian Language and Literature from Tulane University.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taught ESL for 20 years both in the classroom and as a tutor, and have successfully instructed students from many language backgrounds. Additionally, I have taught as a profession as well as in a volunteer capacity, in NY and as far away as the Philippines. In the Philippines, I volunteered with school children in the impoverished areas of Manila, but I also have experience teaching business English to Japanese ex-pats in the US.
