About Mildred

Hi :) My name is Mildred and I'm currently a junior at Seton Hall University. I am a pre-medicine, mathematics major, and chemistry minor. Also, I am a part of the Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Plus Program (PMPDPP) here at Seton Hall.
Although I have never done tutoring as an actual job, I have always tutored various people from my younger brother and my mom, to my peers, to even the upperclassmen in PMPDPP. I really enjoy teaching others because I genuinely enjoy learning, particularly math. Many people usually see my passion for math when they find themselves wondering why a pre-med student would major in math as opposed to something like biology. The answer to that question is that I simply enjoy the subject so much that I have accepted the extra workload along with my pre-medicine prerequisites. As a result, teaching the subject is a hobby to me.

I think what makes me an outstanding math tutor is my strong background in the subject. Consequently, this often allows me to teach the subject in different ways from how instructors usually teach certain topics. There are many times where I find a simpler way to solve a problem my instructor(s) used more steps to solve. This has always been what has made many of my peers come to me for help; they always know I can break down any problem into something much more simple, no matter how scary the problem may seem.

As a tutor, I am really looking forward to making others enjoy math as much as I do. I often run into people that loathe the subject, mainly because the information has not been presented to the in a way that fits their learning style. My goal is to get to know the people I will be helping and shape my teaching style into a way that will benefit each of them.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
