Teachers College - Columbia University (Master's)
I have been a certified classroom teacher for almost ten years. I have taught children as young as Pre-School and as old as high school. I mostly enjoy teaching reading and writing, but am willing to help students in other subjects if needed. I also have tutored students in reading, math and test prep with an educational company. At this time in my career, I am seeking something more flexible which will allow me to still do what I love but spend more time with my family.
I received my undergraduate degree in English. I have taught Language Arts - reading, writing, literature - for elementary through high school aged students.
I most comfortable working with this age group and strive to make lessons fun as well as interesting.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My elementary school teaching experience spans from grades Pre-K to Grade 6. As a classroom teacher, I was required to teach all subjects for these grades. Additionally, I am a certified teacher in two states for this grade category.
As an elementary school teacher, phonics was a part of the curriculum. I have taught students in grades Pre-K thru Gr. 2 phonics. In teaching students to read, phonics instruction is also used.
