My tutoring methods vary according to each student's needs: Clearly, if a student is preparing schoolwork, the methods I use are different from those used when a student or group of students is trying to acquire a second language for travel or conversational purposes. In the latter case, my goal is to first enable the student to communicate effectively. As I have lived in both France and Italy, where I have taught English as a second language as well as learning Italian and French, I am confident I can help you with anything from your homework to preparing for an upcoming trip to Rome.

I enjoy the way Connie starts her lesson, making it easy for me to understand better. She goes step by step to see what you understand and don't and than go further. She is patient and shows you the right way once she understands the level your in.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught ESL in Milan for Oxford Institutes Italiani in 1983 and as an in-house instructor at Italtel telecommunications company in 1991. I was certified in 1991 by the British School in Milano to teach ESL. I also have done private ESL tutoring in Paris while studying French at La Sorbonne in 1982.
I lived for two years in Italy, working as a journalist and translator for a US news magazine, and supplementing my income as an ESL teacher. For beginners, I use a modified full-immersion method, building a grammar base first, following an Italian-, rather than American-, designed course. I incorporate simple conversation and sentence modelling into the early stages of instruction, which quickly lends itself to more sophisticated conversations as vocabulary and mastery of grammar increases. I also do advanced conversation and support sessions for students struggling with Italian classes at school.
