Versatile STEM tutor eager to teach
Hello! My name is Michael. I graduated in 2011 with both my Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees in Mechanical Engineering (ME) from Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, NJ). I concentrated in Mechatronics, Robotics, and Aerospace/Aeronautics. I have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, earning the title Engineer-In-Training (EIT) in ME. I intend on going for my Professional Engineering (PE) title soon. I have also went through Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training, but...

I’ve noticed throughout my life that I gain a deep satisfaction when I spread knowledge, understanding, and curiosity. It was this that drove me to engage in thought exercises with those around me and finally accept students to tutor.
As your STEM tutor, my goal would be to ensure that you can answer anything an exam or a future boss throws your way. If time allows, I believe the best way to start is to learn the foundational science and math behind what you are learning. I will then engage & guide you to learn bit-by-bit of the topic by explaining & applying all logic, proofs, theorems, laws/principles, and real world applications. Afterward, the old saying of “practice makes perfect” comes into play. I will devise as many questions of increasing difficulty as you need until you feel comfortable enough to tutor the subject yourself. Given enough time, you will not only know how to solve the problems, you will be able to explain why the formulas work and speak knowledgeably on the subject. Of course, if you need a “quick crash course” just to get through tomorrow’s exam, I can skip to teaching the “shortcuts” and give you homework in order to gain an understanding level needed to pass. I am more than willing to customize my approach based on resources, availability (time), and how the student learns best. Let me know what works best for you!
I've been "informally tutoring" since 2006, with this being my first “official” venture into the tutoring world. By "informal tutoring", I mean I have not sought advertisement for or steady income from my tutoring. I have only tutored those who sought me out asking for assistance (exact number of students is unknown). Students connected with me via friends and family (many of whom I tutored in the past). I have the bulk of my experience in tutoring 1 student per session, but have tutored 2 students on occasion.
The subjects I've tutored are Middle and High School Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra, and Physics. I have also tutored test prep (STEM only) to adults for the GRE, math placement for Penn State, and entry into nursing school. I'm pleased to say that all my students increased their grades in school or got into the schools/placement of their choice.
Please don’t take anything you see in my profile as non-negotiable. I'm flexible in my hours and hourly rate. If you wish to meet in person, that can most certainly be arranged! I personally go by travel time (vs agreed upon hourly rate) and not by miles, so please inquire even if you are “outside my range” since I live by many major highways in NJ (Turnpike, Parkway, Rt. 9, Rt. 35, etc.). I am also willing to take up emergency tutoring sessions (if I am available), but please note that if I am told too close to the tutoring session I will be unable to develop any prep-material to go over.
