About Harshal

Hi,

My name is Harshal and I have always found excitement in teaching others. I strongly believe that understanding the foundations and concepts before diving into the details is "the right way" to learn any new concept. It is really important for me to build that foundation early on. Math and science were the subjects I found the most fun as a student and that's essentially because I was lucky to have teachers that taught me "the right way." Tutoring has slowly become a passion of mine. Understanding someone else's learning style is normally the first step because despite having a deep understanding of the subject material myself, effectively conveying and teaching that concept to someone else is always an interesting challenge. That's what makes tutoring a continuous learning experience for not just my students, but for me as well.

My teaching method is very simple. I cover a specific concept and I let the student ask questions. Next, we work through examples because this gives the student an opportunity to apply what they just learned. Its also an opportunity to ask more questions. Most important of all, practicing with examples helps retain information much better in my opinion.

In terms of my qualifications, I was a Biological Sciences and Psychology double major in my undergrad. I went on to complete a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences. During college, I was a tutor for an Advanced Biology/Chemistry class called Systems Physiology for 1 semester where I worked with students one-on-one and held review sessions for several hundred students at once in a lecture hall.

I am a qualified tutor for Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physiology, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus, and the MCAT exam. This includes any of the corresponding AP classes as well. I took over 20 science classes in college and have maintained a competitive GPA while doing so.

Tennis is another passion of mine. I played tennis all 4 years on the varsity team in high school. I started out at the 2nd doubles position and moved up to the 1st singles position. I have been playing tennis for 10 years now and have experience in providing lessons as well.

I like to make the tutoring experience very interactive and fun; listening to a lecture is not fun for anyone. If you have any questions about my teaching style, scheduling, or anything else for that matter, feel free to get in touch with me. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you have. I hope we get a chance to work together in the future. Thank you.

Best,
Harshal

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken math all throughout high school and have received all A's. I have also taken up to Calculus II in college as well. I am very experienced with Algebra and should be able to tutor in it without a doubt.

Algebra 2

I have taken math all throughout high school and college. My math courses thus far include Calculus, Algebra II, Algebra I, Prealgebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. I am very thorough when doing math problems and prefer to do them step by step. This is especially helpful when teaching others because having a step-wise method for students to follow can make mathematics much simpler when learning a new concept for the first time.

Biology

I was a Biological Sciences and Psychology major when I was an undergraduate student. I have taken more than 20 biology classes and have done very well. I also have a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences. I should be able to tutor in Biology without a problem.

Chemistry

I have taken 3 years worth of chemistry courses in my undergraduate and graduate curriculum. I have done well in all my chemistry courses. I have been a science major all through out college. It is a subject that I am very comfortable teaching. :)

MCAT

I took the MCAT exam in which I scored well. I am very experienced with the format of the exam and have tutored in it for an extensive amount of time as well. This has allowed me to create my own teaching style and help implement strategies that work.

Prealgebra

I have taken math up to Calculus II in college and have gotten all A's. I have taken trigonometry, geometry, Prealgebra, Algebra I and II.

Tennis

I have played varsity tennis all 4 years of high school and I started out in the 2nd doubles position and moved up the ranks to the 1st singles position. I played in high school from 2006-2010. I played recreational tennis from then on in college.
