About Ivan E

I have a BS in Chemistry with a lot of experience in teaching both at High School and College level as a private tutor. I graduated top of my class in April 2014 in Venezuela, and I am as well a holder of very prestigious awards such as 2 time silver medal winner of the National Chemistry Olympiad (2001 & 2002). I'm also highly qualified in teaching Math and Physics which I am able to transmit successfully to the student. I'm very intuitive when assessing whether a student is understanding or not, as well as changing and adapting my teaching approach and method so that students can relate with the subject, gain interest in it and experience the satisfaction of learning after understanding the subject in matter. All this in a disciplined and responsible environment but with enough flexibility so that the student won't felt blocked by a tense and pressured learning environment.

As a Venezuelan native, I'm fluent in writing and speaking in Spanish and hence would be the perfect choice for tutoring Spanish at any level and for lots of purposes. My degree in Chemistry involves writing a big number of lab reports, papers and talks, which are both very technical and have to be done with the highest standards of grammar, spelling, vocabulary, etc. I served for 2 years as the National Communication & Information Coordinator for the Sri Sathya Sai Organization in Venezuela, which demanded top quality standards in using Spanish language in the most appropriate and proper way. I am always eager to improve my skills and to keep myself updated with the latest rules from the Royal Academy of Spanish Language.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

As a Chemist graduate I took many calculus courses over the whole of my studies, reviewing it constantly since is a subject that is used throughout all of the sciences. I excelled on them getting the highest of grades (5 out of 5, with 5 being the maximum number) in the first 3 math subjects, which included algebra and calculus I and II. And I got a grade of 4 out of 5 in differential equations and calculus III. I was a teaching assistant for 2 whole years in which I taught differential equations, Algebra I and II, Pre-calculus, calculus I and II many times. The general opinion of my students was that I made it easy for them to understand the complex concepts and formulas that teachers usually taught, and clarified many doubts for them and helped them improving their grades.

Chemistry

I'm a BS Chemist and graduated top of my class on April 2014. I also was awarded prior my entering to college with silver medals in the National Chemistry Olympiad, and was part of the trainees for the 34th International Chemistry Olympiad held in the Netherlands, which means I have over 10 years of experience in Chemistry. At college, I got the highest grades (5 on a scale from 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest) on almost all of my chemistry subjects both theoretical and practical.

As for my tutoring skills, I managed to earn a status in my country for being a patient, well skilled and intuitive tutor, which could assess the potential of the student in order to adapt my teaching pace and method, as well as adapting to the learning style of the student in order to obtain maximum learning and making the student earn self-trust so he/she could pursue his/her goals in the subject matter. I try an approach of making the student understand what is behind the problems and questions so that he/she be able upon that to work by themselves and experience the satisfaction of having really grasped the subject instead of just learning some formulas and concepts that will fade away within a few minutes.

Organic Chemistry

I'm a BS Chemist graduated top of my class on April 2014. I also was awarded prior my entering to college with silver medals in the National Chemistry Olympiad, and was part of the trainees for the 34th International Chemistry Olympiad held in the Netherlands, which means I have more than 10 years of experience in the subject of Organic Chemistry. At college I got the highest grades (5 on a scale from 1 to 5 with 5 being the highest) on the first two introductory Organic subjects on the first try. And have quite an experience in other topics such as Organic Labs (Synthesis and Determination) and Instrumental techniques on Organic Chemistry. Had some research experience with organic polymers synthesis and characterization with techniques such as 1H, 13C-NMR, FT-IR, Mass Spectrometry, DSC and other techniques.

Physics

Extremely Knowledgeable and Very Accommodating

Ivan tutored my son with AP Chemistry. After 4 tutors who claimed they knew the materiel, we finally found someone who truly did. Ivan is very patient and made sure my son understood the subject matter thoroughly.
