PHILOSOPHY:
Being myself and treating all people the same no matter the age. Making it fun. As long as I love it I will find a way to teach it!

BRIEF LIFE STORY: A father first and foremost, my children are my greatest muse. Given all the money and free time in the world, spending time with my kids would still be first on my list. As a child I loved creating, inventing, playing (inside and outside) and being funny. Leading up to high school I had always pretty much been a right side of the brain kind of person, quick witted, natural in the arts, self proclaimed, "A Generalist", someone who understood a lot of things but not to the extent of the specifics. Despite my natural instincts I never thought of pursuing them in a professional manner. Like many kids sports was where it was at for me and that was how I wished to send my ambitions. However, lurking inside of me, somewhat hidden was this other part of me that felt missing, unexplored, left out that needed to be reclaimed...

Graduating high school can make a lot of self reflective questions surface up. Wanting to know who you are might top that list in a conscious or unconscious sort of way. I had spent so much time focusing on sports, mainly basketball, my entire adolescence that I was resigned to continue my "Hoop Dreams" pursuit. I really believed that I was going to play pro basketball at some level, no, I was sure of it. A junior college would not have been my imagined depiction of where I would be post graduation but that was where I was ready to conquer.

Union County College, Cranford campus was, as far as JC's go, a really sightly campus. With a lake in the back and one across the street from the front, lodged in the middle of a fairly well to do suburb, the college was certainly not an eyesore at all. Playing both years of attendance on the basketball team, receiving a scholarship and work study assistance made it an undeniably fruitful experience. Majoring in business, studying math, accounting, economics, and marketing type classes was OK for me but not quite fulfilling in a soulful sense. Up until then it had always been about basketball first education second.

Upon graduating from Union County College with an Associates degree I attended Rutgers University-Newark branch. Inside of me an internal turmoil was going on. Learning was evermore clearly becoming the more important part of attending college not basketball. I decided to switch things up a bit changing majors from business to fine arts/performance. Actually how it happened was that there was a requirement to take a liberal arts elective so I chose a drawing class. This class was the first class that actually felt like fun. Learning about the arts felt like coming home. It was challenging in a thought provoking way yet easy in a " I kind of think this is fun" kind of way. So that is how I continued. After taking a three dimensional design class twice because I really really loved it, my senior focus became sculpture. Learning about 3D design and thinking about 3D space in a practical sense opened my mind up to new way of thinking, a left side of the brain way that had been missing for so long. After graduation, I applied and was accepted into the carpenter's union apprenticeship program where the next five years were about learning how to apply those left side of brain practical concepts that had only been theory in college.

Upon meeting my wife and having my first child, we opened an arts and crafts store here in Rutherford where I currently live. We no longer have the store but have a lot of left over supplies we use with our own kids. Life goes in circles to remind you about the things you enjoy but forgot about. Where once I never imagined having a career doing the things I loved as a kid now I am trying to spark a career in the comedy field performing at open mikes and organizing meet up groups geared at the comedy profession. I still entertaining all my ideas in any form that I receive them be it art, invention, story writing etc...My wife, children and I all have our own Etsy shops which is an e-marketplace for handmade items/art work. Such a great outlet for us and fun way to teach our children about creating and selling your craft.
I am looking for an opportunity to work with you/your children to help develop creative intuitions. Whether you are just forming an idea, looking for a creative ear to share with, have no idea where to start a project, need a muse, etc.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

Definitely from a functional approach, Photoshop is best learned on an as needed basis. By focusing on teaching the fundamentals of the program the student will able to expand their knowledge on their own regardless of what version they are using.

Drawing

Initially trained in drawing, my art career began with an experimental drawing workshop. A well known artist took notice of my sketches. She moved me into advanced classes shortly after allowing me to blossom into a technically abled artist. Using some of the same exercises that I learned and loved then along with my own take on the fundamentals of drawing is my teaching approach. The great thing about drawing is that it is one of the purest art forms, all you need is mark maker and a surface to make a mark on. You will learn about the purity, simplicity, mindful free expression of this art.
