About David

I worked for nearly 20 years as the in-house trainer for the photo department at The Star-Ledger newspaper. As a result of that experience I have deep knowledge about digital cameras, computers, and software related to those devices. This gave me the opportunity to teach professional photographers and other newspaper staff how to take better pictures and video with all sorts of gear and to make that material look great on any publishing platform.

After leaving The Star-Ledger I worked for a company that specialized in communications training. We taught adults how to communicate better in life and on the job. That position also allowed me to gain skill developing and maintaining websites, as well as using social media platforms. I'm excellent at explaining these things to others and truly enjoy seeing people use these skills.

I have many years of experience not only using computer hardware and software, but also teaching others how to use devices related to desktop publishing.

During my time as a photo editor for New Jersey's largest newspaper, I worked with many highly skilled photographers, technicians and editors. I have vast experience with Adobe Photoshop and photography, but am also skilled at teaching others how to bring the best out of the images.

Anyone can improve their photos or digital publications. While the cameras and computers and software can be complicated, even learning a little about them can lead to better results. Most important, such skills can be an asset in almost any job, field of study, or future discipline. Knowing how to make good photos and professional-looking publications will benefit anyone.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Adobe Photoshop

I am the former Deputy Dir. of Photography for The Star-Ledger. I trained staff to use digital cameras and related software, such as Photoshop. Directly in charge of photo production staff, which prepared all photos for publication in the newspaper. Experience with Photoshop and other tools on both Mac and PC.

Macintosh

While at The Star Ledger, New Jersey's largest newspaper, I trained and managed a staff of technicians who maintained the Macs used by the photography staff. I have years of experience teaching people how to use and maintain Macs.

Photography

I worked for 20 years as a photo editor at two of New Jersey's largest newspapers, The Star Ledger and The Record of Hackensack. As photo editor I was responsible for teaching people how to use digital cameras and related software. I was also in charge of selecting and editing photos for use in the newspapers. I have also worked as a photographer in other jobs.
