Hello! My name is Colin, I am a 23 year old graduate of UNCW and a licensed (HQ) teacher for the state of NC! I was a long term substitute at Laney High School for about 4 months where I taught World history (9), Civics and Economics (10) and AP World History(9-12)! I also teach at a summer camp for kids of all ages where we teach children how to skimboard! I am used to working with kids of all ages and teaching a range of subjects and would love to help you learn some history!
I've always loved history and decided I wanted to become a teacher when I realized many of my history teachers in school were boring. They were taking something I found incredibly interesting and torturing us with black and white pictures and pages of notes. I knew there was a better way and when I was going through the education program at UNCW and teaching at EA Laney high school I made sure that I wasn't following the footsteps of some of my former instructors.
I believe history can be interesting, engaging and exciting for everyone. I understand a lot of it can be boring and dull for students but that does not mean there isn't a way to connect it to their lives. I'm a firm believer that if a student enjoys what they're learning, they will remember it. I would love the opportunity to work with you or your child and help find a way to remember the causes of WWI or why anyone still cares about the 10th amendment.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
