Hello. I am a sixth grade teacher in Montville Township Public Schools. I am middle school certified in English Language Arts, Social Studies and Special Education. I'm looking forward to helping your son or daughter achieve success in these areas, as well as gain better study skills.
In current position, I help students improve their reading and writing. I believe the only way to become a better writer is through focused instruction that builds on their present level of performance. It's extremely important to focus on foundational skills and to go from there. Infusing technology into the tutoring engages students as well. In my current position, I have twice rewritten curriculum aligned to the Common COre Standards, so I know the areas that need to be emphasized including complexity of text, academic vocabulary, syntax and fluency.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am very familiar with the Common Core Standards. As a teacher in my current position, I have twice rewritten curriculum where the Common Core Standards were central to the curriculum development, as well as the instructional methods that must be aligned to the standards. I appreciate and practice the most important areas of the Common Core in my professional life. Of particular importance is the complexity of text, academic vocabulary, syntax and fluency.
I have a lot of experience tutoring kindergarten through third grade students. I have attended numerous multi-sensory reading workshops, especially Wilson Reading Workshops. The way students learn to read is through phonics and gaining phonemic awareness and not through whole word processes.
