I have been teaching and tutoring American Sign Language for many years. I love the language and culture and immensely enjoy teaching others about it. I feel so rewarded knowing that I have taught someone American Sign Language and now you have the ability to converse with someone who uses sign. It is the greatest joy teaching others about deaf culture and American Sign Language.
My background is as follows: I have a degree in American Sign Language (Graduated Highest Honors). I have been awarded Best Professor. Since a youth I have been very involved within the deaf community at large. I Have taught extensively throughout schools from preschool through the College level. I also give private lessons. I have both family members who are deaf and a teenage child who uses American Sign Language to communicate.
My passion is teaching others to learn American Sign Language and to be involved with the deaf community. Also to build an awareness within their daily lives of American Sign Language and those who communicate using the language. I also want all to have an appreciation for the language and culture. American Sign Language is a beautiful language and is intertwined within the culture. When people understand this and learn the language it is truly amazing to see the hearing and deaf world come together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been involved with the deaf community since a youth. I have extensive knowledge in ASL, deaf culture and the needs of those who are deaf and hearing who want to interact with the deaf community.
I have my AAS degree in Interpreter Training, I graduated with Honors. I have taught from the college level to preschool. I also have a child who is deaf so I bring into my tutoring practical application so one can understand the deaf.
