About Kaitlyn

I'm looking to be a tutor for students who are struggling in English or Literature. I know that it's not for everyone, but literature is important, for it gives us different philosophies and ideas on society and the world. It also gives us a sense of history, like how Shakespeare's plays showed us how the different classes interacted with each other, and how the monarchy was not as glamorous as everyone thinks it is.

While I'm still on the hunt for experience, I promise that I will not let anyone down. I will help a student reach their full potential and help them realize what they can learn from such great authors, and help them find their inner author for essay and creative writing. It's my job as a tutor to help guide them in the right direction. I really hope you will give me a chance and I look forward to working with you!

I took honors English classes from the 10th to 12th grade. I am an English major, currently attending community college to receive my associate's, and afterwards, get my bachelor's in English at a four year university. Classes I have taken include Shakespeare literature, College composition 101 and 102, Women's Literature, and I'm currently taking British Literature I and II. I was published all 4 years in my high school Teen Writer's Guild, and I'm currently a content writer for Ideate Vision.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I took mainly honors US History back in High School. I'm always looking to learn more things on this great country's history.

English

I am currently studying to get my English degree. I'm always taking classes that are required for my degree and am always reading. A student can definitely count on me to always be on top of things.

Grammar

I took honors English classes from the 10th to 12th grade, so I was already always writing and going over papers. The same is going for college. I'm always making sure my papers are in correct sentence structure.

Literature

I am currently taking literature classes, so a lot of what I read is what some students read. If a student is reading something I have not read, I will do my research and background on the story. I have read British Literature I and II, Shakespeare Literature, College Composition, and honors high school level English classes (10-12).

Microsoft Excel

I took a Computer applications class and I have passed with an A. Excel was one of the applications we learned how to use. I'm also using Excel for my work at the library to keep track of fees, printing money, and my time sheet.

Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is something that I have been using since middle school. I've used it for mainly presentations and for my speech 102 class. Professors also use PowerPoint.

Proofreading

I am always writing papers and reading, so sentence structure is always put in front of me. I'm also an English major so writing papers correctly is always a requirement!

Reading

I have read such authors as Edgar Allen Poe, Shakespeare, and classics such as Beowulf. I'm always reading for my literature classes, so figuring out text will never be a problem. I'm also willing to read something new if a student presents at story I have not read yet.

Theatre

I have taken four years of theatre in high school. Subjects include Theatre History (From early Greek Theatre to modern day Theatre), and techniques (Uta Hagen and Constantin Stanislavski). Minor knowledge in tech theater as well.

Writing

I was published 4 years in a row at high school for their Teen Writer's Guild. I'm always writing papers for my English classes, so I know the different essay and paper types. I'll help a student learn how to have a paper stand out.

Great First Lesson!

Like her teaching style. Also like that she picked up on when my child skipped over words and refocused on that. She even taught past present and future tense. Thanks for being patient with my fidgety child. Visual and games help. Great 1st lesson
