About Chris

After practicing law for 24 years, I chose to leave the practice of law to pursue my love of teaching and working with students. I have taught in the public and private schools and now work exclusively as a private tutor.

I tutor all subjects and test preparation skills relating to the law and criminal justice. I work with students of all ages up to and through law school.

I also specialize in tutoring the language arts for students of all ages. I help students improve their reading comprehension, writing, word usage, research skills and assist them with editing their papers and essays.

I tutor test preparation for the bar exam and for the reading and writing portions of the SAT, ACT and GRE.

I majored in Philosophy and Political Science at Northeastern University (Class of 1981) and have a Juris Doctor's Degree from Rutgers Law School (Class of 1987). I worked as a production editor on one of Rutgers' Law Reviews. As a litigation attorney I developed very strong research skills and persuasive argument skills. I love helping my students improve their skills in these areas.

I have a very strong background in all of the Liberal Arts including History, Philosophy, Literature, Comparative Religion, U.S. Government, Comparative Governments and Psychology.

I provide detailed feedback and suggestions after each tutoring session. I have a wonderful relationship with my students and love working with them.

I am happy to discuss any questions you may have regarding your expectations and goals for tutoring.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

I am a graduate of Rutgers Law School and practiced law for 24 years. Much of the bar exam is based on the test-taker's ability to write succinct essays that either analyze factual issues to reach a conclusion based on applicable law. In addition, the bar exam requires test's one's ability to make a meaningful persuasive argument based on relevant facts and law. The multi-state portion of the exam is more of an objective test of the common law.

As an experienced attorney who specialized in litigation, I have a strong command of legal writing skills and expertise in the area of persuading writing (known as legal briefs). I have tutored many students and assisted them with their ability to analyze subjects, master the information tested and write excellent essays.

Criminal Justice

I am an attorney with over 24 years of experience in practicing law. I studied criminal law at Rutgers Law School and have practiced criminal law in the Superior Court of New Jersey and municipal courts throughout the State of New Jersey. I have a degree in political science from Northeastern University and a substantial portion of my courses were devoted to the study of criminal justice.

Philosophy

Bachelor of Science in Philosophy and Political Science, Northeastern Univeristy, 1981

Study Skills

I have worked as a teaching assistant in the public and private schools for over ten years. I have taught elementary through high school and am familiar with the learning needs of children and adolescents as they progress through their education. My teaching philosophy is that a student cannot process information efficiently if he or she anxious or apprehensive. Therefore, I always try to bolster my students confidence and self-esteem so that they are better able to learn their course material. I have worked as a tutor for 15 years and have had great success in helping students flourish at school and improve their grades.

A great tutor! — I am a distracted student and she knows how to keep me focused and excited about learning. Chris and I are working on Constitutional Law for Law School. Her years of experience as a lawyer and a teacher and tutor are instrumental in helping me understand a very complicated subject. ...
