Bio

After attending Randolph High School, I received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and studied Calculus I-III, General Physics I & II, and several other advanced courses in mathematics and engineering mechanics. I started my tutoring career during college, helping classmates and younger students, and since then I've helped students of all ages and abilities develop the skills and confidence to improve their grades and test scores.

I scored in the 97th percentile on the SAT Math section and in the 98th percentile on the SAT Verbal section (in addition to a 790 out of 800 on the GRE Quantitative Section, prior to the 2011 test revision). While test scores alone are no indication of one's tutoring abilities, I think these scores are evidence that I am well-rounded (not just a math person), making it easier for me to connect with a variety of students. And while math is my strong suit and my favorite subject to teach, it is certainly not my only skill or interest. I worked for a Fortune Global 500 consulting firm for six years, primarily with professional sports league clients. I've traveled to 19 countries in nearly two years abroad and worked in Chile and Colombia, developing basic Spanish language skills. I also enjoy surfing, snowboarding, hiking, cycling, and recording and editing my own guitar music.

Critical to my success at Boston University, where I finished with a 3.83/4.00 GPA, was a thorough understanding of calculus, physics, and the essential concepts taught in geometry, trigonometry, and algebra. I understand that a strong foundation leads to greater confidence, and I enjoy the challenge of making the material accessible to a variety of students and skill levels, whether helping with the basics or advanced problem solving applications. I help students prioritize their efforts both during and outside of our sessions, ensuring that each student is practicing the most pertinent material given his or her unique situation. This is especially important in standardized test preparation and is something that no test prep book can offer.

If you are struggling to keep up in class or simply eager to improve your grades or test scores, please contact me to see how I can help you efficiently reach your goals. Thanks for taking the time to read my profile!

Computer

Microsoft Outlook,

Microsoft Outlook

I was required to use the Microsoft Outlook application during my six year career with an IT consulting firm. During this time, I used Outlook on daily basis for my work email and calendar needs. As a consultant, a large portion of my job entailed acting as a liaison between project team members and their counterparts on the client side, which required constant use of Outlook's email features and calendar features (ie for creating and managing group meetings). I was also required to use Outlook during my four years at Boston University to access and use my student email.
Microsoft Project,

Microsoft Project

While working for a major IT consulting firm, I worked on a Project Management Office tool and procedure implementation to support uniform, weekly project reporting at an e-commerce company that provided online shopping solutions to over 500 clients. During this project, I coordinated the conversion of over 200 work plans by 30 project managers to a standardized format in Microsoft Project, allowing for consistent project metric reporting in the client's weekly executive meetings. I had to sit down with each of the 30 project managers to explain how to maintain their new work plans in Microsoft Project. I also showed the client how to create and manage aggregate project metric reports using the data in the new tool.
Microsoft Windows,

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows extensively since 1995. In addition to using it for academics during high school and college, I was required to use a laptop running the latest version of the Windows operating system during my six year career with an IT consulting firm. As evidenced by my passing of the Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint subject tests, I am comfortable with numerous Microsoft applications, which implies a proficiency with the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Guitar

I have been playing guitar as a hobby for over 20 years and started playing in bands during high school - my high school band played a gig at the famous CBGB music club in New York City before the club was shut down permanently. I also enjoy recording and editing guitar music using digital audio workstation software, and I completed the following two courses at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies: Audio Production I with Pro Tools and Audio Recording. I have given introductory guitar lessons to three students.
