Roger Williams University (Elementary Education)
I am a recent college graduate of Roger Williams University and graduated with honors. I student taught during the 2014-2015 school year in a third grade class in Rhode Island. I love teaching and I am very patient. I will not give up on a student and make sure that a child understands the material to the best of his or her ability. I feel that all children can learn, but at different rates, using different learning styles. If one way does not work, I will try another technique.
I do not have much tutoring experience, however during my student teaching I worked a lot with small groups and individual students. I feel that students prosper with one-on-one attention. I love working individually with students because I can really focus in on the issues that the student is having. That is what I love about tutoring; you can focus on one student's misunderstandings and work with him or her until they fully understand. I feel a tutor can provide help and assistance to a child who needs it. Also, sometimes hearing information from a different person, in a different way can help a student understand the information better.
I have a lot of experience with the Common Core because every lesson I taught was aligned it. I know that the Common Core can be difficult for students at times. I understand the techniques that the students are asked to use, which can be different from how subjects have been taught in the past.
I have experience with elementary age children. I am very patient and understand how children learn. I am going to be a certified instructional teacher in New Jersey come September.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
