I also hold an MA in Sociocultural Anthropology (Princeton University '16), a Master of Theological Studies (Harvard University '14), and a BA in Religious Studies with a minor in Anthropology (University of California Santa Barbara '11). I have been independently designing and teaching "Introduction to Cultural Anthropology" and "Peoples and Cultures of the World" classes at a community college for the last two and a half years. I also independently designed and taught "Introduction to the Study of Religion" at a federal correction institution, and served as an Assistant in Instruction for "The City and Social Change in the Americas" in Princeton University's Department of Sociology.

I have significant experience tutoring college-level students in Anthropology, Religious Studies, Sociology, reading, and writing. I habitually aid students with critical thinking skills, reading comprehension, and the structure and content of their written assignments. In my classes and tutoring sessions, my students and I work towards building skills that will serve them throughout their education and beyond.

I have studied Anthropology at undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral levels. I have experience designing syllabi for Anthropology classes and independently teaching those classes. I have also tutored students who were struggling with the readings and assignments.

The bulk of the tutoring I have done concerned helping my students to improve their writing. I provide detailed feedback on spelling, grammar, structure, and content of written assignments and talk through ideas with students in order to help them organize successful essays.

I have studied Religion at undergraduate and graduate levels and taught a community college-accredited Religious Studies class at a federal correction institution. I provided office hours for students to ask questions and receive aid with class assignments.

In addition to having successfully completed all classes necessary for my degrees, I engaged in nearly three years of qualitative, ethnographic research in York, United Kingdom and the Western U.S. With this field experience I wrote my dissertation, which is entitled "'History is Who We Are': Truth, Community, and Crafting the Past in York, United Kingdom and Northern California and Nevada." Although I have taken a wide range of Anthropology classes, my areas of specialization are the anthropology of memory, history, morality, and death.

Religion

Although I took classes that focused on various religious traditions, the foci of my studies were indigenous religious traditions. I am especially knowledgeable about Haitian Vodou and Siberian Shamanism, and have conducted research in Siberia. I am also adept at the method and theory associated with the field of Religious Studies. I have independently designed and taught a class entitled "Introduction to the Study of Religion" at a federal correction institution, which was accredited through a local community college. In this class I introduced students to a number of world religions and taught them some of the core methods and theories in the study of religion.

Great teacher, highly recommend

Emma P was a fabulous teacher for my college son. She was quick to respond, and really helped explain and teach my son what he just wasnt getting with his own Professor at school. Patient, and very knowledgeable! So happy, my anxious son is feeling confident again :)
