Bates College (Biochemistry)
University of Connecticut (Master's)
I have been a teaching assistant at the University of Connecticut for two years. I have taught classes in biology and biochemistry with average class sizes of about 20 students. I hold office hours for these classes and I always encourage my students to contact me for one-on-one tutoring if there are materials that they do not quite understand. In cases where the students are having a hard time understanding a complex problem, I like to make simple connections with material they might have seen elsewhere (like analogies) and slowly build up to address the problem. In cases where the student was completely at a loss, I would often go over the very basics very thoroughly and provide examples such that the student will have some hands-on experience instead of just me lecturing. It is a personal belief that learning is like building a skyscraper, you can't expect to build a tower of knowledge without a very stable base (or a very solid understanding of the basics) for which to build upon.

My son has really enjoyed working with Guang and Guang definitely knows his subject material. He communicates well with both my son and myself and is very prompt and reliable. After two tutoring sessions with Guang my son got his first A ever on a Geometry Test. I highly recommend using Guang for a tutor!
Guang showed my son new ways of problem-solving that made the geometry process much quicker. My son's mistakes, as well as their solutions became much clearer to him. The confidence gained from one session with Guang was priceless. We will keep his information handy for any future tutoring needs.
Sam found his session with Guang very useful. He was able to explain the topic in a way that made sense and gave Sam confidence.
Both of my teenagers worked with Guang with science and math subjects. He is very good and explains his subjects well.
Excellent tutor. Our daughter raised her chemistry grade and it is no longer a problem subject. Chemistry is one of her favorite now. Patient, timely, good teaching skills. We are very happy with Mr. Guang and plan to use his service for long time.
Guang is extremely knowledgeable with a strong ability to communicate and teach difficult concepts. His teaching style is relaxed, yet sophisticated and nuanced. Guang clearly is able to assess that each student is unique and will tailor his teaching method with the best unique fit. With a rare combination of both qualitative and quantitative teaching skills, he is able to impart information both efficiently and effectively. Guang is very timely in all appointments and communication. Perhaps needless to say at this point, he should unequivocally be your top choice for consideration.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was a member of my high school chess team that won the Regional Championship our senior year and have remained an avid player since.
I have been swimming since I was a child and was a member of my high school swim team. Afterward, I passed the test to become a lifeguard at the local YMCA and was also approved for CPR. I was part of my high school swim team for all four years, swimming mostly the 200M and 500M distances and then moving on to the individual medleys.
