About Divya

I am a personally and professionally well rounded college graduate with a bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences (pursued a double major in biological sciences and psychology and graduated with highest honors and distinction from a prominent U.S. institution). I am also on my way to obtaining my teaching certification at the graduate level and receiving a master of science degree in biotechnology and business at a premier U.S. institution.

I have a long history of tutoring and STEM education leadership, pedagogy, peer mentoring, and teaching experience which I can bring to help you and your child/student excel and achieve your respective educational goals. I have previously tutored students of all different ages and educational backgrounds in biology, chemistry, mathematics and statistics, English literature and language arts, English reading and writing, grammar, psychology, sociology, the social sciences, and other humanities related subject areas throughout my undergraduate years in college and post-grad. I also have strong verbal and written communication skills and have a great grasp of foreign language and can speak English and Spanish and have intermediate proficiency in Hindi, German, and French and am currently learning Mandarin Chinese, as well.

Specifically, I worked as an instructor throughout my undergraduate career and helped students achieve grades of A in expository writing 101 and other upper level English discourse and literature courses. I also led academic study groups, customized exam review sessions, and collaborative learning activities for the college-level courses integrative human physiology 300, general chemistry with lab, general biology with lab, and biochemistry 301 with lab and have a strong grasp of the STEM subject areas and the social sciences.

I am not only proficient in these content areas but, I have a strong enthusiasm and knack for explaining intricate concepts in layman's terms and gearing my lesson/tutoring plans towards students with various learning styles and different academic/educational backgrounds. I also recently underwent a rigorous professional development training program in education/pedagogy during my senior year in college, in which, I was able to learn how to teach diverse populations of students with various educational backgrounds and special learning needs/styles and abilities. I am confident in my ability to help you reach your highest academic potential and hope that you may consider me as a part of your future educational plans.

I am readily able to think outside of the box and come up with innovative ways to cater to your tutoring needs and goals. For instance, if a student was unable to aurally understand a concept or topic, I would try different teaching methodologies to help the student grasp the subject material. For instance, I would try to convey the information via concept mapping or by creating 3D simulated/live online models/media presentations of the material so that the student could see, feel, and potentially interact with the text material instead of reading/hearing it. I would also try to relate to the student and figure out his/her needs, short-term and long-range goals, and learning style so that tutoring sessions are both meaningful and productive. I love tutoring because I get to work closely with students on an individual basis and really help make the learning process more enjoyable and less stressful. I also find it very rewarding to be able to positively impact a student's life through my work and get them closer to their short and long range academic and professional goals.

I feel that I am the strongest as a tutor when I individually scaffold and tutor students on a one-on-one basis and I am very comfortable tutoring online. I also have a customized whiteboard platform and rich audio/video tools that will allow you to see exactly what I am writing/typing and I can share my screen with you so that you have the best online experience. I am passionate about tutoring you to make a positive difference in your life! Please message me if you have any questions before setting up an appointment and I would be happy to chat with you to see if this is a good fit for your tutoring needs. I am so confident in my abilities as a teacher that my first hour lesson is free with a satisfaction guarantee. I promise that you will not leave tutoring unhappy or dissatisfied.

I have Advanced English reading and writing, Biological Sciences, Physicial Sciences and Chemistry, Life Sciences, Psychology, Communication, and Leadership Skills coursework background. Strong course performance in the STEM areas throughout undergrad and graduated with highest honors from university. Upper-level science elective coursework background in the areas of biology, plant science, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology and neuroscience, physiology, biochemistry laboratory, physiology laboratory, mathematics and calculus, and statistics with a bio-research oriented focus. I am also well-versed in general inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics and took all major laboratory components with these life science courses. I have also supplemented my STEM coursework with laboratory and research experiences and this has helped me gain a strong understanding of each subject area. Most of all, I am able to teach the material well and can convey the information to you in basic terms. I not only understand the information myself but, am very clear and precise in my tutoring approach so that you can achieve your desired goals. Most of all, I am confident in my abilities to tutor these subject areas because I not only have a strong grasp of the academic content but, I am very well versed in teaching it and I understand how they test for it in academic settings K-12 - college. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anatomy

I have had approximately 3 years of private tutoring experience in the area of human anatomy and rodent anatomy at the college level with practical lab/cadaver experience and can thoroughly explain the subject material to tutees of any kind and with any learning ability/academic background. I have also completed written and practical lab examinations in the area of human anatomy and am well versed in all major structural features, organ systems, and limbs of the human body. One of my major success stories was when I tutored this subject during college for an upper level human anatomy and physiology course and had great outcomes with my tutees who went from grades of C and D/F to grades of A in the course with high scores on the cumulative final practical exam.

I used a variety of different tutoring and instructional methods, such as, interweaving and associating terminology with live demos/media content lessons/video clips to bring the material to life. I also used the auditory, linguistic, bodily kinesthetic, and visual learning methods to tutor this subject. I found that this variety was helpful in getting the message across to the students. Lastly, I found that asking the students more questions and having them re-phrase their content knowledge into questions and answering the questions for themselves was a very helpful strategy. I like to keep my instructional approach very conversational, humorous, and relatable and I think that this works well in studying the tedious subject of human anatomy.

Biochemistry

I have over 4+ years teaching biochemistry to students focused on this area as my concentration of study in college. Biochemistry is my area of expertise and most of all, I have knowledge on how to use pedagogy and teach the subject to students well so that they can understand. I have served as a Teaching Assistant for general biochemistry with lab and advanced biochemistry in college and was able to transform the student experience by helping ten students go from grades of C/D/F to grades of B+ and A after only 2-3 months of prepping with me. I guarantee satisfaction and promise that you will have a great experience. Thanks!

Botany

I have a bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences and had approximately 2 years of private tutoring experience in the area of botany at the college level with both a rigorous biology and ecology/evolution/genetics focus and can thoroughly explain the subject material to tutees of any kind/learning level or ability and with any prior academic background. For instance, I tutored this subject during college and had great success with my tutees who went from grades of D/F to B+/A towards the end of the term.

I also used an eclectic variety of different tutoring methods, such as, spaced repetition/chunking and interweaving and associating terminology with live demos/media content lessons/video clips/3D models/visual diagrams to bring the material to life. I also used the auditory, linguistic, bodily kinesthetic, and visual learning approaches to tutor this subject well in a way that students can understand and remember for a long time. I found that this variety in my instructional approach was helpful in properly getting the message across to the students and helping them independently learn. Lastly, I found that asking the students more higher order thinking and complex questions and having them translate their content knowledge into questions and answering the questions for themselves with evidentiary support/conclusions based on the supported data was a very helpful studying/learning strategy.

Chemistry

I have served as a teaching assistant for general chemistry at the college level before and have a taught chemistry lab experimentation classes and have dealt with a lot of experimental data and analysis. I am thorough and coherent in my chemistry lab content and applied theory understanding and can easily help students with chemistry lab or theory based questions at any level up to college.

Genetics

I have had approximately 1.5 years of private tutoring experience in the area of genetics at the college level with both a molecular biology and population/Mendelian genetics focus and can thoroughly explain the subject material to tutees of any kind and with any learning ability/academic background. For instance, I tutored this subject during college and had great success with my tutees who went from grades of C to grades of A.

Organic Chemistry

I privately tutored organic chemistry for approximately one year while in college and met with students on an individual basis to help them reach their academic potentials. I believe that my high academic performance in organic chemistry in college (all A's and only one B+ in organic chemistry I lab) and intuitive teaching skills helped me better cater to student needs and queries regarding the subject. I found that my tutoring approach was most effective when I used a variety of different tutoring methods, such as, drawing out diagrams of the individual reactions and explaining the different unique characteristics of each reaction. I also tried to relate the lab material to the course material in order to bring the material to life. Most of all, I believe that my educational background on the subject material and experience tutoring this subject and other STEM related areas makes me a competent applicant.
