I have 5 years experience teaching high school mathematics - algebra 1 and geometry - in a classroom setting and held certification to teach mathematics in the State of Virginia from 2007 to 2012. I also have 1 year experience teaching high school chemistry: basic chemistry, honors chemistry and senior level chemistry 2. This year I am also teaching chemistry at Sedes Sapientiae School in Chatham, NJ. I have worked as a private tutor for the past 3 years, tutoring homeschooling and regular-schooled students from grade school through high school mathematics (pre-algebra to precalculus), chemistry, and test prep (PSAT, SAT, ACT, NJIT entrance exam, PARCC, and Regents). I graduated from MIT with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and also worked 3 years as a civil engineer (inspecting bridges, designing databases, and doing some AutoCAD design work). Students frequently report a great improvement in understanding, proficiency, and enjoyment of math and science after working with me.

After only one lesson with my daughter Diana was able to identify where she needed extra attention. She took the time out after the lesson to send links for more problems on the topic she would be testing in. Very helpful-very personable.
Diane is an excellent teacher, who is able to take complex
material and break it down for an easy understanding. She is extremely
reliable, gets back to you right away, and has gone out of her way in
being flexible to accommodate schedules and last minute help that was
I highly endorse Diana. She is a phenomenal teacher.
Diana helped my daughter prepare for the new SAT math section. She was very good at breaking everything down so my daughter had a better understanding of how to approach these problems. This resulted in higher scoring after 44 lessons (1 1/2 hours each). She was very professional, always on time, patient and always well prepared. She also provided analysis of which problems my daughter faired better on as opposed to those which she needed more help on, and subsequently tailored the lessons toward what she needed to work on. Excellent tutor.
Diana is excellent! She requests my son's material prior to our session so she is fully prepared to explain it and work with him. We are very pleased and would recommend her!
Diana is very professional and honest. She is really helping my daughter and her comprehension is improving significantly in math and science.
Diana is helping my daughter to ease the pressure before the SAT by giving her a clear understanding about what to expect.
Diana is not only very knowledgeable but she is also excellent in explaining the material to my son. He actually enjoys the lessons with Diana. I can highly recommend her and will certainly use her for my daughter when the time comes in a couple years.
Diana reviewed Algebra 2 quadratic equations and solving quadratic equations with graphing. The session went very well with homework completed and topic understood!
Diana worked with my daughter in Algebra last year and Geometry this year. She is knowledgeable, prompt and very personable. I highly recommend her.
We just had a first lesson with Diana for geometry. She was patient and clear, taking the time to make sure my daughter was comfortable with a lesson before moving on. We will definitely schedule more time with Diana.
Diana helped our daughter a lot. Diana was easy and very accommodating in scheduling the sessions.
She was very honest in her approach and well prepared. Our daughter had only few sessions with her and got perfect score both in PSAT and SAT math section.
We hired Diana to help our 6th grade son with math about one-third of the way through the school year. He seemed to be falling behind a little bit and Diana helped him to understand some of the concepts he was struggling with. Before she started with him was a B average, but had him up to a B+ by the end of the school year. If I had Diana come earlier in the year he probably would have been an A student. Diana was great with emailing a summary of what they did after each tutoring session. What they focused on, what he was good at, what he struggled with, etc... Would definitely hire Diana again.
Diana was extremely helpful to my daughter. She broke down the problems and helped Gia understand the math in ways I couldn't. Gia was doing C level work which got better during tutoring, and then was pleasantly surprised that she got a 91 on her in class year end final! We are going back for more ACT and SAT math help.
My Daughter Kayla was struggling in her first year of high school math. She was always a straight A student in all her subjects including math. We never needed or considered a tutor until half way through her first semester of 9th grade Geometry, she had a C-. She was panicked so we asked Diana to work with her for an hour per week. They ended up working together throughout the year and the results were a B+ first marking period then A-, A and A for the others.
Diana was knowledgeable, patient and best of all, proactive in working with Kayla. She would follow up on lessons and really cared about Kayla's results. I really appreciated the way she would call or e-mail after the lesson with more information or a tip she may have forgotten. It was clear to me that it wasn't just about getting her hour in.
On top of all of this, she is a very pleasant person and nice to be around. Thank you Diana for all your help!
Diana was instrumental in helping me catch up in both Geometry and Chemistry. As I fell behind in both subjects, I felt I needed to hear a different voice other than that of my teachers to better grasp the material.
Diana was the perfect choice. She was prepared, patient and reassuring, which gave me the confidence to move forward. I am very happy I took the chance on getting tutoring help from Diana because she gave me the foundation which allowed me to catch up and feel confident I can excel in both courses. Thank you very much Diana for all of your help!!
She is always on time, very patient with her student, and explains the questions and the answers in detail. A great tutor.
My daughter missed a few weeks of school and needed help to catch up in Chemistry and Geometry. We hired Diana to provide that help, especially in Geometry. My daughter enjoyed working with Diana, learned quickly, and did very well on the make-up tests when she got back to school. Diana was able to provide several hours each week, was quite flexible with her schedule and provided a patient and productive learning experience. I am glad we hired Diana.
Diana is always on time, cheerful, and prepared. She has my daughter send her homework results so she can tailor the lesson. My daughter's math abilities (if not her affection for Math) has certainly improved. We hope Diana can continue to work with all of our kids.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored students in the ACT test - math and science portions - for the past year. In addition, I taught algebra 1 for three years and geometry for five years - two of the main subjects on the math portion of the ACT test. I have also tutored in algebra 2, pre-calculus, and SAT prep for the past 2 years all of which gives me more knowledge and experience to share with my students.
I have tutored students in the math and science portions of the ACT since last year and. My major in college was in civil/environmental engineering so I have a strong background in science. I also taught chemistry for a year and have been tutoring it for the past two plus years.
I have 3 years experience teaching algebra 1 in a classroom setting. I have also tutored many students in pre-algebra, algebra 1, algebra 2, and SAT prep (which involves a good deal of algebra) over the past two plus years. Finally, I reviewed and retaught many algebra skills with my geometry students during the 5 years that I taught geometry.
I have tutored algebra 2 and sometimes, precalculus (which uses much of the same knowledge and skills), for the past two plus years. I also taught algebra 1, the prerequisite for algebra 2, for three years and have been tutoring in it for the past two plus years. I have a good ability to explain subject matter to students.
*I do not tutor for students in algebra 2 classes that use the online book Pearson Algebra 2, Common Core or with any online book *
I taught high school chemistry for 1 year, which included Regular and Honors Chemistry and a Chemistry 2 course for seniors. I also have been tutoring in chemistry for the past 2 plus years. I am teaching high school chemistry this year at Sedes Sapientiae School in Summit, NJ.
I have five years experience teaching high school geometry. I have also tutored many students in geometry over the past two plus years. Finally, I have also tutored many students in SAT prep - which involves quite a bit of geometry.
Many skills needed in pre-algebra are then used in algebra and geometry. I have 3 years experience teaching algebra 1 and 5 years experience teaching geometry. I also have tutored in pre-algebra and many later math subjects (algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, advanced math) over the past 2 plus years.
I have tutored a little bit in precalculus. Much of the material in precalculus is also covered (but in less depth) in algebra 2 - and I have tutored a good number of students in algebra 2. I seem to have a good ability to explain harder concepts in a way that makes sense. Before a session in pre-calculus I would ask that you send me the topic/problems that you would like to go over, so I can be sure to be able to explain it well without having to think it through myself first.
I have 3 years of algebra teaching experience and 5 years of geometry teaching experience and have been tutoring in these subjects for the past two plus years. I have also tutored many students in SAT math and PSAT math for the past two plus years. I would be available to help students with the math portion of the PSAT and not the English/Writing portions.
I have tutored many students in math SAT prep (and math PSAT prep) over the past 2+ years. At this point, I am very familiar with the questions and the types of problems students have. I also have 5 years of experience teaching algebra and geometry - 2 of the main subject areas on the SAT math test - and have been tutoring in algebra 1 and 2, geometry, and other material that is on the SAT math test for the past 2+ years.
I have three years experience preparing students for the Algebra 1 SOL and five years experience preparing students for the Geometry SOL and I have the same number of years experience teaching those subjects. I have also tutored in algebra 1 and geometry. Finally, I have prepared students for the SAT, which is another standardized test that requires algebra and geometry knowledge.
