I am a positive motivator with an innate ability to determine if I will be the right choice for the student. If I am not, everyone will be notified and time and money will not be wasted. This is very important. I have helped many improve their reading and writing skills and I can tutor all elementary subjects , but reading and writing are my special strengths. It is wonderful to see in the improvement in students when they receive one on one training that an excellent tutor, which I consider myself, can provide. If they can feel a sense of accomplishment through learning, it can bring them joy great joy.
My passion for teaching is one which I have had since I was five years old. I am certified in Elementary Education. I have taught writing classes to home schooled children, adults, and individuals. Teaching has been an integral part of every aspect of my work. I look forward to meeting new students and making a positive difference in their lives. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have my degree in Elementary Education and am presently a substitute teacher for these grades. Having a different class and grade each time I teach enables me to adapt to the new set of students and quickly learn their behaviors. I am then able to effectively follow the lesson plan and keep the attention of the students. It is this ability which enhances my qualifications for tutoring, since each child is so unique.
Two particular examples were a kindergarten and fifth grade class that I recently taught. The kindergarten class was supposedly "the worst behaved class in the entire school." Yes, they were challenging, but I was firm and interesting and we even had some fun. The entire school was surprised to see me back there the next day! The fifth grade class had a movie for social studies on the Constitution for the last activity of the day. I told them we would have a game quiz after the video so they had to pay attention. I made up the questions as we all watched the video. They had a great time with the quiz and the one who answered the most questions right got a recommendation to the regular teacher for a marble, which is her form of reward.
I excel in teaching punctuation, sentence structure, and the proper use of prounouns and adjectives.
Phonics has always been my one of my best strengths, both in my professional teaching experience and in teaching both of my children to read. I taught my children to read starting at age one with picture books and the use of phonics. The sounding out of the letters with the identification of a picture were the basis of both of them learning to read. Before each of my children was two years old, they could identify the letters and we started to work on the sounds that the letters produced. By age three, they could read some words and improved from there and to this day, both are avid readers.
In my student teaching I taught a fifth grade boy with dyslexia to read. In a few short months he made more progress with me than he had made in the prior 6 months of the school year. Teaching him phonics played an integral part in this process. I believe strongly in the importance of phonics in teaching children to read.
I have even taught several adults to read through the use of phonics.
Psychology was my second major in college and I have always had a great interest in it. I can help students learn and study better in this subject by providing interesting lesson material and easier ways to remember the facts.
Reading is an integral part of life and the educational testing system. I can teach reading on all levels and enable students to score higher on their tests.
I can teach SAT writing skills to enable the student to score better on the SAT writing test. Since SAT scores are so important in college acceptance and scholarship qualifications, my instruction can be most beneficial in aquiring better SAT scores.
I have excellent writing, spelling, phonics, and grammar skills which would support the teaching of speech to students. I am able to work with children who may have difficulty with speech through the use of phonics and repetition.
I can teach and improve students spelling and word recognition to enable them to attain better test scores.
I am very capable in helping students to learn to study better. There are certain methods to enhance the retention of facts and ideas which they need to remember for their lessons. I can help them to memorize and organize material in order to maximize their studying potential.
Vocabulary words must be increased with each session so the student is able to master as many words as possible. Review and understanding of the words must be attained as well.
I teach creative writing to home-schooled children, elementary school children, teens and adults. I have 13 years of experience in this field. I can help students improve their writing skills and enable them to score better on their tests.
