I have been teaching voice lessons for six years and truly enjoy helping students find confidence in their own unique voice. I have a Bachelors of Music from New England Conservatory of Music and a Masters of Music from Westminster Choir College, and I have had classes in voice, music history, and music theory. I teach voice in all styles with a focus on healthy sound production.
In addition to my musical training, I have an extensive background as an educator in the museums of New York City where I spent five years creating and implementing lesson plans for all ages. Because of this combination of experience, I am skilled at finding creative ways to access complicated material and I am able to make learning fun and stress-free. I also have a degree from the intensive summer program at the Stella Adler School of Acting in New York City, and have worked professionally in musical theater in Naples, Florida and Boston, Massachusetts. I am skilled at monologue selection and coaching, and dramatic song interpretation.
My six years of music school training have prepared me well to help students with a wide range of musical abilities in a variety of musical subjects. I love teaching voice, and I feel it is important that students have an understanding of music theory and sight-singing as well as the history of any repertoire they may sing or study. I help all of my students master the many skills required to be a well-rounded musician which can help them in all areas of their lives. Katie explains very clearly, she is wonderful with analogies, and helps the student find strategies to improve its singing (color, pitch, interpretation,...). She presents, offers, but never imposes.
My son learns a lot from Kate's lessons and is always happy afterwards.
In just a few minutes of my first session, Katie taught me much better technique than I had learned in all of my previous voice lessons. She is a very knowledgeable teacher and will work with you to find a repertoire that you enjoy. Highly recommend!
Katie is excellent in her craft. Makes her sessions with my 7 year old daughter fun but organized. She is methodical in her lessons, starting with physical warm ups, scale practice then learning songs. Katie makes the lessons fun and interesting for my restless 7 year old!
My first lesson with her was excellent! The environment was very relaxing and she made me feel very comfortable. I love the fact she provided me a folder with very informative instructions. I'm looking forward to learning more with her and most of all i'm looking forward to my next session with her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have two music degrees and over fifteen years studying music. I have taken courses in music theory, music history, music education, and vocal pedagogy. I am experienced at writing songs and playing basic piano. I have given voice lessons to several students over the years and am able to communicate the basics of music well to beginners, specifically meter, music notation, sight singing, scales, rhythm, and pitch accuracy.
I have a Bachelors of Music from New England Conservatory of Music with a 3.87 GPA) and a Masters of Music from Westminster Choir College with a 4.0 GPA. In both programs I took extensive classes in music history beyond the required courses. As a graduate student at Westminster Choir College I was invited to be a student research representative for the annual Musicology conference to discuss my research into jazz history and contemporary Indie Music. I was also a presenter at the Public Musicology National Conference in Princeton, NJ for my research into contemporary recital formats and American Identity in Music. I have taken many music history courses such as Public Musicology, Women in Music History, Beethoven and Berlioz, History of German Lieder, and History of French Melodie.

I have performed on stages in New York and San Francisco and had training with Joanna Merlin and Austin Pendleton at the Manhattan School of Music Professional Musical Theater Workshop. I have also taken classes in monologue selection and preparation and I have trained in both Shakespeare and contemporary theater.
I have studied voice for 18 years and have both an undergraduate and graduate degree in Voice Performance. My graduate degree also includes a specialization in Voice Pedagogy, or the study of teaching voice. I had two years of Voice Pedagogy training including vocal anatomy, vocal teaching methods, and the history of the voice and the history of teachers of voice. I have basic piano skills and am able to accompany when necessary. I have given voice lessons for approximately six years, and I am willing and able to train in various styles including musical theater and opera/classical voice.
