Hi! I'm Mandy, a mother of three (almost) grown children and a grandmother of four. I have been an educator for over 40 years, starting when I was a teenager teaching children in my church. Since then, I have gotten two undergraduate degrees, one in Music Education and the other in Music Therapy, a Master's degree in Music Education, and am currently pursuing my Ph.D. in Music Education from Temple University. I have taught students of all ages privately, in public schools, and at the university level. I also homeschooled all three of my children for 20+ years.
All of these experiences has more than qualified me to be extremely well-versed in adapting instruction to each individual learner. My Music Therapy background also gives me special skills working with students with special needs.
I come from a long line of educators, so teaching seems second nature to me, and I believe that teaching is more about lighting a fire than filling a bucket. Teaching is fun for me, so I think it should be fun for the students as well, and I like to come up with ways to keep the students engaged.
I have been a musician my entire life. I began teaching music when I was a teenager and have three (almost four) degrees in music. I attended the prestigious Peabody Preparatory of the Johns Hopkins Institute in Baltimore, Maryland for eleven years and also studied at the world-famous Tanglewood Institute in conjunction with Boston Conservatory. I have taught everything from K-8 general music, 6-12 choral music, high school band/chorus/orchestra, collegiate level music appreciation, and have designed curricula for elementary students in opera, orchestral instruments, American folk music, and much more.
Although my degrees are in music, my many years of homeschooling have provided me with a great deal of experience in all subject areas and I am very comfortable teaching across the curriculum. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or to schedule a "getting to know you" session to see
