During my 25 years of teaching my Motto has been "Learn to do well" (Is1:17a). For me to assist a dyslexic child to do well, a diagnostic testing will be designed to identify specific weaknesses, through discreet and intelligent observation which will reveal clues to a child's failure in a learning task. Such failures are corrected through systematic remediation geared to the specific difficulty, which will result in substantial changes in the child's learning.
I have obtained my qualifications from Valsayn Teachers' College, and the University of the West Indies (Trinidad & Tobago) with concentration in the Teaching of Mathematics. While working with the nation's children at the elementary level, slow learners seem to have serious difficulty in reading and poor sequential memory both visual, symbolic and auditory. Therefore, to guide these children to become 'high achievers', I successfully pursued the Certificate and the Advance Level Courses in Teaching the Dyslexic Child. To continue producing high achievers, I successfully became a qualified ESL Teacher from Middlesex County College. I am equipped to assist your child. My time is flexible and can work around your child's schedule. Should there be an urgent need for me to renege on my commitment, a cancellation policy is in place that will cater for make-up classes. I am more that willing to begin working with your child at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you soon. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my qualifications to tutor dyslexic students in Trinidad & Tobago. My task was to create lessons to target their learning problems and blend such lesson with their class work. This created high achievers.
I have 25 years of teaching experience, the latter 10 years as a specialized tutor in the area of dyslexia. I've tutored 2 children (ages 8 and 14) since migrating to the US 4 years ago. Added to this, I hold a Cert.in Ed. in Teaching of Mathematics. This has further assisted me to better work with students with specific learning difficulties.
I assure you, I am suited for the job. I am of African descent, came from a family line of Teachers, and have continued to look for and develop ways to make students enjoy learning even if it means through play. Choose me, you will not be disappointed.
